Actually the particular bulb I want to buy will replace a dimmable standard incandescent bulb. I guess the only way to test it will work is by trying?

This is what I was told a few years ago but then someone told me that modern LEDs will work with old halogen dimmers. As for dining in the kitchen, it's great for mood lighting. When cooking they are on full blast but when eating we dim them.

What is the issue then? I don't really understand how there can be an issue beyond the rating. If I had a 60W LED lamp won't it just produce more light? it won't draw more electricity, and it won't have as much heat as a 60W incandescent.

Ok. (parlance issue: I think you are using the word lamp, where I would use bulb. I would use lamp for the fixture). Indeed, I don't think I have ever seen an LED rated as high as 60W input.

That's my question. For the record, I am seeing bulbs in my local store at 6W source/60W luminosity, 8-9W source/80W lum, and 12W source/100W lum. I imagine all are safe. but what is the maximum I could use?

I should add, for those trying the same thing, replacing the iflo scr with drayton scr is easy and requires no rewiring. The mounting plate into which the wires go in is the exact same (size, look and wiring order is the same). I used the old mounting plate and didn't rewire anything.

Update. So, I got the digistat thing and replaced and all seems to be working. Hopefully, things will continue to work. Thanks for all the help!

Cool. So it doesn't matter that one is a Drayton and the other an igloo? They look exactly the same, but is the wiring the same?

I don't have an iron. The last time I used one was year 8 in school. I saw that video and it certainly looks like a simple fix if I had an iron. But can I easily remove the old and swap one the new? Is there just a mounting bracket with wires?

I should probably add, the system has been working fine for 5 years until a few days ago.

just looked up what a TRV is. How do I check if that's it? is it a problem? OK. So I guess I will ask the next time the boiler gets serviced to empty the trap. But, just for my curiosity, does it block when it fills up with condensate?

Can I see if the condensate trap is blocked without opening the boiler? I can see the trap underneath the boiler. The water looks mainly clear with a little bit of black condensate at the bottom.
