Tile backer board on brick wall

I'm looking to attach wedi boards to a brick wall. Is it ok to use beads of OB1 or similar on the back and then go through with brown rawl plugs?-- or is it better to use a proper tile adhesive on the back?

    Small question about wiring layout

Sure thing. It's something like this, where all of the top wires running horizontally are above a ceiling. Sockets 1 and 2 are on opposite sides of a wall. So the connection to 3 would be above the ceiling at the point circled in red, and there would be nothing coming down into the left most...

    Small question about wiring layout

I'll be removing wires which come down from the ceiling, and making the new connection in the void between joists before installing a new ceiling. Will that be ok?

    Small question about wiring layout

Thanks very much for this, I appreciate your help. The actual runs of the cables won't change. Both wires won't reach to the third box, unfortunately. Is there a circuit diagram that shows the appropriate configuration of wires for attaching the two incoming to the wire running to the third?

    Small question about wiring layout

I'm looking to remove the two outlets circled here in black and retain the third. Is it the case that I can use an appropriate wago box to connect either of the two incoming wires to the wire that runs to the third outlet? Looks simple but I'm not an electrician and just want to make sure I'm...

    Cast iron soil pipe

It looks brutally heavy, it's true. I'm sure I know your answer to this but is there any chance it would work for me to head up on a ladder and and install some more fixings along the length of it? I live somewhere pretty remote and getting a scaffold out there is going to be a huge pain...

    Cast iron soil pipe

I'm putting in a new ground floor bathroom and will need to run a waste pipe out for the toilet. The soil pipe outside is cast iron and goes all the way up to the roof. Is it possible to remove a section of it so I can splice in a PVC waste tee, rather than removing the whole thing and replacing...

Quick qu about cable to EV charger

That's useful, thank you very much. A rep from the company came round today and explained where they'd want to install their own box, right next to the consumer unit. It's just the route for the cable that's under discussion -- really I'm just checking that I'm ok to get the cable to the right...

Quick qu about cable to EV charger

My wife bought an electric car and it comes with a free charger and installation; unfortunately the guys doing the installation won't touch anything if it involves a ladder, since that apparently requires extra training (!), and our fuse board is upstairs. I don't want a bunch of trunking all...

    Boxing in RSJ

Haha maybe it will give the place character! At any rate, any preference regarding the narrower / wider boxing?

    Boxing in RSJ

It's tied in with wall ties; the structural engineer visited while it was going up and raised no objection. The steel also extends into the wall beyond, and the pier is there to give it a larger base to sit on. Beyond that I couldn't tell you what the builders got up to. I didn't know that about...

    Boxing in RSJ

    It is, yes

    Boxing in RSJ

It wasn't my decision unfortunately -- would have been better to use two beams alongside each other to reduce the drop into the room, in my opinion, but it is what it is. I reckon the engineer massively overcompensated for what the actual load is, but that's not my job and I can't complain.

    Boxing in RSJ

Quick question about the best way to box in an RSJ. It's on piers made of standard concrete blocks, which are obviously much wider than the RSJ. I could either box in the RSJ and the piers separately, so there's a narrower beam going across the room, or I could frame it out to make the boxing as...

    repair concrete block for fixing

Thanks mate, I'll let you know how it turns out. Unless I get crushed by a shelf

    repair concrete block for fixing

I was kind of hoping that might work! It's a pretty big bracket that's getting attached, so it will hide whatever's behind it -- just has to be a strong fixing. So on reflection I could actually skip the wood block and just use the bracket itself -- screw through the top hole in the bracket...

    repair concrete block for fixing

    Sadly not possible!

    repair concrete block for fixing

I was drilling into the wall (1930s concrete blocks) to install some heavy shelves and the SDS hit a chunk of something and made a ridiculously massive hole -- 50mm across maybe. The fixing's got to be exactly there, so I can't patch it and try again 3 inches to the left. What's the best...

Checking simple lighting and socket circuit diagrams

ps Is that correct with the brown?-- to show that it's not a neutral coming out of the switch?
