Yes, thats why I want to sort out the felt issue, before they put the new stuff in.

    No felt on the roof

Hi Folks, My elderly mother lives in a 3-bed semi in London. She has the usual clay tiled roof in good order, but there is no felt. The main problem is the amount of dirt that gets blown in, as you can imagine living in London. The worst part of it is that in the snowy season, it blows in and...

    Sucking in air

I just did the cup of water trick in the loft and it definately sucked. This system has been running for at least 13 years to my knowledge and I've never had to call a plumber, except to change the cylinder. Is this just a badly designed system? What would be the best way to recify the...

    Sucking in air

Hi Guys, I appreciate the help. The 15mm pipe on the left starts at the header tank, goes down to the airing cupboard where it goes into a 22mm T. One continues down (presumably to the boiler), the other branch to the bottom of the cylinder coil. The 22mm pipe comming out the top of the...

    Sucking in air

Hi, We're on the edge of my plumbing knowledge now! Can I assume the seperator is that 3-pipe thingy just above the pump? The pipe going out the top of it goes to the header tank (sits well above the water line). Are you saying that pipe should be full of water? At the moment it sounds like...

    Sucking in air

A new hot water cylinder was fitted a couple of months ago and I took the time to flush out the CH system a couple of times and clean the header tank and add some new inhibitor. Everything seems to work fine, the water gets hotter and quicker than it did before now I've got a new tank etc. Its...

    Sucking in air

Hi, Apart from the rads gurgling, a lot of noise seems to be comming from the vent thing above the pump. The pipe out the top goes to the expansion tank. Should this pipe be dry or should it have water in it? If God had intended me to be a plumber, he would have given me webbed feet! Cheers.

    Sucking in air

Hi Folks, I have an ordinary indirect heating and hot water system. The hot water system supplies the two upstairs rads in the bathroom and en-suite. Every morning when the hot water comes on, the two rads gurgle like mad and have to be bled everyday. I've had a new copper cylinder fitted in...

Hot rads when CH is off

I was speaking to a mate of mine in the pub last night. Apparently some plumbers connect bathroom rads to the HW side of things. Anyway, that seems to be what has happened here and is nothing to do with the 3-port valve. My mate is an electrician, I'm surprised you plumbers didn't think of that...

Want to securely wipe a HDD?

Take the platter out and go over it with a bit of sandpaper. Less chance of having someone's eye out with pieces of flying metal.

    Telephone extention help please

If one of your phones is working at both sockets (upstairs and down) then it sounds like you have a faulty phone not socket. Does the phone you had plugged into the new socket work when you plug it in the old socket downstairs?

Hot rads when CH is off

Can these things be 'unstuck' or is it a replacement job? (Honeywell 40003916-003) Can I assume its the 'wet' side of the valve not the electrical?

Hot rads when CH is off

Hi Folks, This is my first posting so be gentle with me! With the CH off, two upstairs rads get hot (just as hot as if the CH was on). Also, when the HW starts up in the morning, it sounds like air is gushing through the pipes in the airing cupboard and the two mentioned rads start to gurgle...
