British Gas RS1 Room Thermostat not working

Thanks for your reply too Ian, i've tested at the room stat. When the heating is turned on at the controller, there is a voltage of 230v between L and N but nothing between (SL) and N (I guess this is two be expected since the thermostat hasn't been switched as the cover is off). Yet, despite...

British Gas RS1 Room Thermostat not working

Thanks for your quick reply. I did swap it for a brand new Drayton RTSI 2400I and it still didn't make an audible click when power was applied from the controller (i.e. the heating was turned on), any idea why this might be the case please?

British Gas RS1 Room Thermostat not working

Hi all, My friend has recently bought a house with a load of problems with the central heating but before I go into all of them, I was hoping one of you could help me with a relatively simple problem. The heating system is an S-type system with 2 x two port valves, a British Gas UP1 controller...

Standing water on back garden slabs

Thanks again. I've just been round with a spirit level and although the fall is generally away from the house wall, in parts this is not the case. One or two of the slabs by the house wall sit lower, so the flow is towards the wall and a few around the centre are also a little lower than the...

Standing water on back garden slabs

Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like you might be right. I've got him to send me some more photos (attached). Looks like the slots may actually just be broken mortar! He scraped down the slots with a screwdriver and they're full of mud. He also lifted up one of the slabs and he says it's...

Standing water on back garden slabs

Hi all, Recently a friend had his wonky paving re-set and cleaned by some handyman who is now refusing to answer calls. You'll see why from the pics... Water used to drain down quite quickly after heavy downpours, with a little standing. However, now, it stays there for a few hours, to the...

Default Ferroli Optimax HE31C - No hot water or heating.

Well, we went for a replacement fan, the engineer fitted it and still the same problem! He phoned Ferroli and they said the PCB needed changing. We weren't particularly interested in doing this, so i'd been looking at alternatives (such as buying a new boiler, buying a second hand boiler etc)...

Default Ferroli Optimax HE31C - No hot water or heating.

@bazdama: It took my brother 5-6 attempts to find a Gas Engineer who was: a) Available b) Willing to work with a Ferroli condensing boiler! Like I said, the purpose of the post was try to see if anyone could shed some light on the problem from previous experience. Our engineer said that...

Default Ferroli Optimax HE31C - No hot water or heating.

Hi all, I tried posting this on UK Plumbers Forums but they didn't allow it because they seem to think i'll be attempting to o the work myself (despite already getting a Gas Safe Engineer out). The purpose of this post is to see if anyone else has experienced this problem, how much it cost to...

Sloped driveway; water getting in under door. Drainage issue

Thanks again for the responses. noseall, how would I go about checking this? There has been no problems with the water drains (no overflowing etc); is there something else I can check for before calling in the experts please?

Sloped driveway; water getting in under door. Drainage issue

Thanks for the quick reply Tom. Should this extend right across the front door too please? Would I be right in thinking that the aco drain would have to be linked to the circular drain? Apologies, I don't know anything about drainage!

Sloped driveway; water getting in under door. Drainage issue

Hello all, My parents driveway is sloped downwards towards the house and although there is a small, circular drain (marked red in the picture); water often gets under the garage door during heavy rain. In the past week, when we had heavy thunderstorms, some water even seeped through into the...
