    Insulating my garage/workshop

Hi Norcon. Thank you for you reply, I plan to reuse the present roofing sheets which are in excellent condition (as previously stated they are not corrugated sheets but box profile - similar to the profiles of the kingspan composite sheets you mention) and I plan to paint them to extend their...

Composite door, weatherstrip and frame rotting

Composite doors are either fiberglass or steel so they dont rot, Thats just a wooden door. To be honest that looks like its already too far gone to me and needs replacing or will do soon. Might be worth posting some links to this thread on the woodwork section and maybe the painting/decorating...

    Wood stain painting plastic

Its a plastic channel of some composition and has been in place since the 90s when the conservatory was built. As as I say, its in good nick so if I can rub it down to key some type of paint finish on, that'll do for me. I'm replacing the roof sheet joint bars because some are cracked.

    Repainting (composite) front door

I've just painted two composite doors with Leyland Acrylic Satin. Both have covered well. The doors looked like a plywood texture. Will try to take pics tomorrow. I did struggle getting a clean edge when I removed the tape from the glass... my bother reckons Frog tape is what to use.

    Blistering paint

I replaced the seal in the shower and since then I think the blistering has stopped. I have drawn round the patch to monitor if it is growing and it does not seem to be so i am going to sand the blistered paint off and then repaint the area. Thanks to those that helped. (it was Crown Matt...

Zinsser allcoat farrow & ball colour match

Have a outside brick wall (already painted with sandtex smooth) and a composite door to paint. The wife wants farrow & ball colours and was looking to get it colour matched in Zinsser allcoat, question is has anyone done this and have they been happy with the results. The firm I've been looking...

glitter wall glaze (moved from Disasters)

Sharon Moore, hi Looks as if your post has gone un-answered for some time? Suggest you go to the web site for the product you have applied and see what it has to say on there? on the site it should tell you what the composition of the paint was. Fail in that, try using on a small area an...

    New front door issue!

Hello I was wondering if anybody can help. This weekend my wife sellotaped a note on the front door and on removing a strip of paint came off! I am not sure of the make of door, possible composite?? I spoke to the site agent as its a new build and he said to touch up the door with gloss. Tried...

    New front door

I was hoping for 1k all in which I thought was reasonable. The better composites are around 1.4k so they are over budget for what to us is just a plastic door. I get your breaking and entering we are on a main road with a lot of footfall. if anyone wants to break in it's not the opening of...

Is this damp material meant to be mortar?

Mystery composition! I'm repairing a window frame in a 1960s house. The gap between the wooden frame and the concrete external sill is filled with this yellow sand. The frame itself is held up on blocks that this stuff is packed around and then painted over. It's moist, sticks together between...

    Front door step

I’m after some advice if I may? I stupidly thought I could use bitumen paint on my composite front door step. So I tried to remove with white spirit, and then apply some Rustin gloss - now it’s just a blistered mess. Can anyone assist so I can get it back to normal?

Zinsser all coat satin for wood and upvc

Thought I'd ask here for advice/opinions. I'm planning on painting two external doors in a colour similar to Chartwell green. Doors are composites, but with wooden facings. 1 frame is wood and the other upvc. Been reading up and thought about using Zinsser all coat satin for everything. Would...

    New Front Door, Timber?

Avoid composite doors, especially for a period property. My neighbour binned a lovely period door (it is now in my garage being restored) because it needed a bit of maintenance (aka painting and lead repair) and put in a composite door. It looks better than a pvcu door but feels still feels...

6 panel doors that won't warp

Hi. Newbie question. What's the cheapest way to buy a 6 panel internal door (solid wood) with no knots and that won't warp? (Will be painted.) People like B&Q do Premdoors but doesn't say what kind of wood it is, I imagine some composite. Are they any good ... or do I go to a timber merchant...

    Advice Needed Regarding Door Locks

I know your a timber guy but I do wonder why at every opportunity you get you feel the need to slate pvc doors, I appreciate a nice looking wooden door as much as the next guy but I appreciate why pvc doors exist also as well as composites, some people just don't want to be painting or staining...

Repairing decking and borders and trying to match colours

Yeah, we looked into replacing the whole thing with composite but the quotes we got were £3-4k which we can't justify at the mo so decided to just have it repaired, rotted stuff removed and braced etc. They've done a great job, it's all solid now and will last us for two or three years and maybe...

Fibre cement vs composite vs upvc wall cladding

I am seriously considering covering the brick walls of my chalet bungalow because it will look better but more importantly stop driving rain from attacking one of the walls which unfortunately have been painted over with plastic paint ( should be made a criminal offence) meaning the bricks can...

What is my door made of?

Thanks. Definitely not been sanded but is approx 20 years old and gets full sun so just weathered. Probably needs replacing but was thinking of giving it a coat of paint first. Any ideas what paint/undercoat to use? Can you get doors like this replaced or must the whole frame be replaced as...

    New front door

chaps we're looking to replace the front door. We have gone and looked at reasonably decent composite doors (Solidor and Rocal) and whilst we like them as in 'yes it's a door' at 1.5k fitted we certainly don't love them. We much prefers wood but my worry is that our front door gets a...
