    Karndean over underlay?

Laid my floor a few months ago, just wanted to post my experiences in case useful to somebody else. I eventually went for QuietWalk LV 1.4mm underlay under Korlok, and I'm very happy with the results. I'm grateful for the wise advice I got on here! It feels like the acoustic insulation is very...

How exactly do you use self levelling compound?

Thanks for the tips Andy, they were useful! There's no much info out there about levelling selected parts of a floor. Just adding some bits about my experience as a total amateur with Ezy Pzy Levelling Compound from Homebase, also a latex compound you mix with water. A 10kg batch doesn't go far...

    Karndean over underlay?

Good to know, thank you. Sounds like I need a 2mm underlay or nothing.

    Karndean over underlay?

It's a fairly dense, firm rubber foam, and it's been pressed down by engineered wood flooring for a few years.

    Karndean over underlay?

Hello, I'm planning to lay Karndean Korlok in my flat. I've removed my old engineered wood floor. Underneath that I have a 6mm black rubber Tredaire underlay for acoustic insulation. Do I have to remove it before laying the Karndean? Their instructions say their flooring needs no underlay, but...

Heatrae Sadia Megaflo - thermostat or element?

Just thought I'd post an update on here for anybody else who has similar problems. The heater I moved from the bottom socket to the top worked for a few weeks, but eventually also packed up. I got 2 new heaters off eBay, and was lucky enough to find an excellent Bulgarian plumber who drained...

Heatrae Sadia Megaflo - thermostat or element?

Righto Tony, I'll get a proper plumber to change it for me. Cheers Matt for the help, very useful info.

Heatrae Sadia Megaflo - thermostat or element?

Pic looks the same as the one I'm using at the moment, and the part number's right. I read somewhere the type with the key was introduced later - earlier versions just had a different diameter. If I order one I'll post the results on here.

Heatrae Sadia Megaflo - thermostat or element?

Not sure about the first one, it does say "Heatrae sadia Megaflo/Megaflow Immersion Heater & Stat" and "OEM REPLACEMENT FITTED WITH TSE THERMOSTAT", so it looks like it is both. In case anybody needs the part numbers, I got these from Heatrae. (This is for a DD 210, "old style" heater with a...

Heatrae Sadia Megaflo - thermostat or element?

Thanks agile, you're right - I've learned my lesson, hopefully. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heatrae-sadia-Megaflo-Megaflow-Immersion-Heater-Stat-95606920-/121035696934?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Hearing_Cooling_Air&hash=item1c2e4a2b26&_uhb=1...

Heatrae Sadia Megaflo - thermostat or element?

Update in case useful to any fellow DIY ignoramuses.. matt1e was right - the stat on my top element was broken. When the water heats up but doesn't stop heating up till the safety thermal cutout on the stat pops, that's a good clue where the fault lies. If your bottom element works OK, an...

Heatrae Sadia Megaflo - thermostat or element?

Thanks a lot for your advice folks - I'm starting to feel comprehensively ripped off by Pimlico Plumbers, and want to limit further cost. I'm going to get a multimeter tomorrow morning and try and check myself if the top element is OK. Found some clear instructions here...

Heatrae Sadia Megaflo - thermostat or element?

Cheers Matt - hard to tell how scaled the element is without taking it out - it's so expensive getting a plumber out it seems like it might be sensible to replace the whole thing, in case the element turns out to be dodgy too. Yeah Paul - when you're an ignorant civilian you're pretty much at...

Heatrae Sadia Megaflo - thermostat or element?

The Pimlico guy wasn't sure whether it was stat or element - current was going through both OK.. there was a bit of scaling and some signs of elec burning on the outside of both. Is there any way to tell if it's the stat and not the element? Cylinder's about 10 years old I'd guess.

Heatrae Sadia Megaflo - thermostat or element?

Groan - Pimlico Plumbers just sent a man who hummed and hahed and sucked his teeth, then charged me £98 for the privilege of hearing what I phoned them about, i.e. I need two new elements. Their price on two is £208, in case useful to anybody else.

Heatrae Sadia Megaflo - thermostat or element?

I've just been turning on the heater when I needed a shower, that's how I've managed on just the top element.

Heatrae Sadia Megaflo - thermostat or element?

Thanks Tony.. sensible advice. I had no idea about the lower element being off-peak, though I don't have Economy 7 and I don't know if the element's wired up for off-peak in my case.
