Good thinking. I am such a dunce!

    Soil pipe access branch questions

Had a crack at this today. Think it went OK. Blanked off the strap boss as suggested and ran a new pipe to the lower boss socket after first cutting a 54mm hole. New rubber adaptors seem a much better and snug fit than the old one. I thought about using silicone just for belts and braces but my...

Where have all the integrated vented tumble dryers gone?!

I did consider replacing parts but it's a relatively obscure and long-discontinued Kenwood model. Not easy to obtain. I've been in this boat before tbh, it's at that age where once you start throwing cash at it, something more expensive will go wrong next week.

    Soil pipe access branch questions

Much appreciated, thank you. Do you have any opinion as to why the builders used a strap boss instead of going straight into the existing boss on the access branch?

Where have all the integrated vented tumble dryers gone?!

I bit the bullet and ordered a heat pump model. We're generally pretty good at keeping on top of the laundry and rarely have the need to get anything dry pronto. Hopefully the extra drying time won't be too much of an issue and the reduced electric bills should offset this somewhat. Went for a...

Where have all the integrated vented tumble dryers gone?!

Where have all the integrated vented tumble dryers gone? Ours is 20 years old and has recently begun making a great impression of a cement mixer! I could have a crack at repairing, but given its age, it's probably time for a new one. I am absolutely flabbergasted than I can't find a single...

    Soil pipe access branch questions

About five years ago we had a toilet fitted under the stairs. The builder put in new pipes for the toilet and sink waste. The sink waste is teed into the soil pipe via 32mm and a strap boss, but there isn't much of a fall on the pipe and I've had problems with standing water freezing and...

Thinking of doing a loft conversion

I would leave the steel beams and staircase to the experts, but I could probably DIY the rest of it. Nice guide, thanks (y)

Thinking of doing a loft conversion

No plans for a dormer, it would be used as a kids/guest bedroom so maximising the space is not essential. I am also happy for the upper purlins to remain as there is plenty of space around them. The doll comes out at Halloween

Thinking of doing a loft conversion

Height from top of floor joist to apex of ridge is approx. 240cm. View from as far back as possible: View from opposite end:

Thinking of doing a loft conversion

Can anybody tell me what type of attic this would be called (apart from a messy one) and whether it would be suitable for converting into living space? I can stand up comfortably in the centre and there's plenty of room above my head. The floor semi-boarded out by the previous owner but I have...

Will 48mm PZ UPVC door handles work with a 47mm sashlock?

Replacing handles and lock on a composite door. It has a mortice sashlock and lever on backplate handles that I am replacing with a euro profile sashlock and UPVC handles. I've located a euro sashlock of identical dimensions to the existing lock, and it has 47mm PZ (some claim 47.5mm). I've...

What type of brick is this?

Few years ago I had my garage door bricked up in advance of a conversion project. To my surprise, the new bricks have a grooved face on the internal side, while the exterior is a very good match to the original brick. They are also not quite as deep as the originals. I am curious as to what...

    Self-levelling over liquid DPM questions

I am applying liquid DPM (Wickes own brand) to an old internal concrete floor with no DPM. Once it has fully cured I'm planning on putting down self levelling compound and eventually wooden flooring on top. Having never done a liquid DPM before, I have some questions: 1) Do I need to use a...

Manhole re-benched - Is this acceptable

Just for that bit, about £270+VAT.

Manhole re-benched - Is this acceptable

I think the angle of the photo is distorting things slightly. The flow is definitely top to bottom and there is a gentle slope. Water does in fact flow no problem, in fact better than before because it was tending to stand a little before going down the U-bend. It's just the snagging at the...

Manhole re-benched - Is this acceptable

Not sure if it makes any difference, but the right hand channel serves a single rainwater gulley, there is nothing else connected to it. I'm no expert, but I wonder if this is why they didn't replace the pipe for this section? I did observe the lad using his hand to sort of sculp a slight...

Manhole re-benched - Is this acceptable

In their own words on the survey report, "Re-bench/channel in the manhole as it is cracked." I have attached a photo of the manhole as it looked previously, unfortunately I don't have a high-res copy as it was gleaned from their report, but gives you an idea of the condition.

Manhole re-benched - Is this acceptable

Can you explain in any more detail why you think they haven't rebenched it? Just so I know what I am talking about when I go back to the insurer. Thanks.
