Do I bite the bullet and go for a Combi?

Complete nonsense, I repair nearly every boiler on the day or in 24hrs if parts are not in stock. Add to that, I only fit reliable boilers and in the unlikely event of a fault, parts are always available. Typical scaremongering if you ask me. Some people have had bad experiences with...

Am I better off buying the boiler myself?

Read again: That's the price in the Plumb Center price guide. Not the price I pay. Mind you, I certainly wouldn't be purchasing from Mr Central Heating as they encourage DIY, plus they broadcast trade prices in the national press. Next thing, the public have worked out our margins...

    Radiator pipework behind skirting?

I don't understand, you will see no pipework doing it this way. Drilling the steel beam is just plain daft. A radiator cover makes no difference, a shallow chase at low level around the wall to the rad is the only way to go. Ah well, it's up to you.

    Radiator pipework behind skirting?

Erm, why don't you just chase the pipework in the wall behind the skirting? By that, I mean all the way around to the rad and bring the pipe out just above the skirting height, the elbow up into the valve. Super neat! So easy, and no airlocks as the rad will be the high point. Drill the RSJ...

    Problem with Worcester 28i boiler!

Pretty vague with your info there. Does it fire up at all? You will have to lift and remove the front panel to look through the sight glass.

    alpha 240x expert required

Denisthedolphin, Maybe a daft question, but did you refit the microswitches in the correct places and not get them crossed?? Also, changing the DV solves the 1st problem.

Potterton Suprima 50L and Myson Power Extra - no hot water!

Slim chance it may be the cylinder stat or even slimmer the programmer. More than likely the motorised valve.

    Combined hot cylinder queries

Unless you have poor mains pressure, then it should keep up with your draw-off needs. Even if the CWS part empties and your hot tap runs dry, the cylinder remains full.

Do I bite the bullet and go for a Combi?

If you plan to change the cylinder, I would bite the bullet and fit a decent combi. Your cylinder and storage cistern are probably older than the boiler. Get it all changed and your controls updating, you won't regret it. Just check you cold water mains flow rate will support a combi.

Am I better off buying the boiler myself?

I'm with you gas4you, 1/2 day or 1 day boiler swaps are not my style. Just finishing a combi conversion job and flushing took over 4 hours for 8 rads. IMO the Baxi Platinum 28HE is an excellent choice with 5 yr warranty peace of mind. I have one of the first ones in my house and it's been...

    Flow problems with two pumps

JohnD, I posted last night, correctly predicting these exact problems. Any amount of pumping over can cause serious problems within the system. With all due respect JohnD, it all looks a bit Heath Robinson. Why not call in the experts and get the job done properly? And is that a...

Am I better off buying the boiler myself?

I did a straight combi swap with a Platinum 28 in March for £1600, but everything on the system was already up to standard, ie: TRVs, roomstat etc. But even if I had no work on and the customer wanted to supply the boiler, I'd say no. I'd rather take the day off and take the Roller for a...
