Old Samsung phone been in the washing machine

Hi, yes, thanks, I have tried charging it a few times, but nothing at all when plugged in. Left charging for a few hours and nothing working. Any way of easily identifying if it's the batttery or not, apart from getting another battery?

Old Samsung phone been in the washing machine

I have a very old Samsung e2121b phone (ok, you can stop laughing!) that went in the washing machine a few months ago. It doesn't work now. Completely dead. Nothing hapens when you try to turn it on. I took it apart at the time and dried it all out but it didn't help. Just wondering if it is...

    Rotting wooden garage door posts

Thanks. I am actually having a new electric roller door fitted and the fitter said they would attach 2 new wooden posts behind the existing rotten posts, attaching to the brick pillars, then clad both old and new wooden posts, attaching the new roller door to the new wooden posts. Just had a...

    Rotting wooden garage door posts

Hi, The bottom half of my wooden external garage door posts are rotting. Replacing the posts competely is not possible for various reasons. My question is, if the posts are covered with pvc cladding, will the old wooden posts continue to rot, assuming they will not be exposed to the weather...

Logic 24 condensing boiler - frequent noise when using hot water

Hope someone can advise please. My son bought a flat which has a Logic 24 condensing boiler. The boiler is around 5 to 6 years old. In the last year it has frequently started to make a horrible hammering/banging noise when drawing hot water either from the kitchen or from the bathroom. Also...

    Internal archway - squaring off

All great advice, thanks! Most neighbours seem to still have their arches. I expect once I have done mine the others may follow! Arches are a bit 80's aren't they?! Main things I have learned here from the forum is to cut out the arch very carefully, then replace with plasterboard and skim on...

    Got it now, thanks.

    Internal archway - squaring off

Excellent, thanks! I will try and keep it as plasterboard only without any wooden framework. Please can you just clarify what you mean by "thin coat corner beads"?

    Internal archway - squaring off

Thanks for replying. Apologies I wasn't very clear in my description and am probably not using the correct terminology! To try and clarify: The existing arch is about 6 feet wide at the base. I do not intend to fit doors, I am just looking for a squared off opening. So will it look best to...

    Internal archway - squaring off

Many thanks for the replies and advice. You have given me the confidence to give to it a go and start by carefully cutting out the arch using a new saw. As the interior width of the arch wall is 14.5cm, is it best to get some planed wood exactly 14.5cm then get a narrow piece of architrave to...

    Internal archway - squaring off

Hi, We have an internal archway that we would like to remove and square off. The house was built in 1989 and the interior walls are plasterboard. I have removed a small square of plasterboard at the bottom of one of the vertical sides of the arch (photo 2). It appears that the plasterboard...

    Weak shower pressure

Excellent, many thanks for explaining. I will check the filters. I guess going back to a 22mm valve is one option (assuming I can find one) for a small improvement but a better bet would be to fit a pump for a significant improvement.

    Weak shower pressure

Thanks, just to clarify, are you suggesting loss of pressure by changing last couple of feet from 22 to 15 is likely to be less than 25%? Yes, the old old valve required 22mm feed. When looking for a new shower I struggled to find any valves that took 22mm pipe so went for a cheap 15mm valve.

    Weak shower pressure

Thanks terryplumb, really appreciate the suggestions. I will do the bucket test next week when I visit my Mum again. I did use copper pipe so that should be fine. I did run the water supply through the pipes before connecting to the mixer so should be no blockages. I don't recall any filters so...

    Weak shower pressure

Yes, sorry for they typo it's Triton Kaho I still have 22mm feeds from the loft (about 20 feet distance) it's just the last couple of feet that go into the back of the mixer that I have changed to 15mm. Would that make that much difference to the pressure? Thanks.

    Weak shower pressure

Thank you. The new shower is definitely not electric. It's described as 'Manual single lever mixer shower'. I don't think the previous shower had much pressure so it's hard to say how much less powerful (if at all) the new one is. Water does come through but it seems quite gentle.

    Weak shower pressure

Thanks for replying. It's a very basic single lever mixer shower. I think it is a Triton Kaho from Screwfix which says min operating pressure is 0.1 bar

    Weak shower pressure

I recently replaced my Mum's very basic shower but have noticed the water pressure from the new shower seems quite low. She lives in a bungalow, the cold is supplied from a tank in the loft, the hot is supplied from a hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard which goes into the loft and back...

Running cable for additional ceiling light

Thanks to all. I'm sure this is now stating the obvious, but I guess it's correct to say when running cables: 1) up and down walls, you should run them vertically or in an 'L' shape 2) across ceiling voids, you can lay them loose, in any direction and they don't need to be attached to...

Running cable for additional ceiling light

Great thanks. So in summary, it is ok to lay cable loose across the concealed side of the ceiling without attaching to anything, eg joists?
