    Gas Safe Register v Checkatrade

I'm looking for a heating engineer to install a new boiler in our house. I understand that the person installing the boiler should be on the gas register. There are plenty of engineers on the gas register close to where I live, but I am unsure as to how I can work out who the best are...

What kind of tradesmen would replace phone sockets?

I've just bought a house, which has phone sockets in almost every room. Many look very old and are hanging off the wall, sat on the floor etc. I thought it might be nice to get new ones properly fixed to the wall. What kind of tradesman would do this?

Whats safer fr young children carpeted or laminated stairs?

I've just bought a house with carpeted stairs, carpets in good condition. My wife doesn't like carpet, she wants everything laminated/wood. I don't mind the rooms being laminated but I was thinking that carpeted stairs would be safer, less slippy, for young children than laminate/wood...

How many sockets should a room have?

Thanks, that's really useful advice. Do you happen to know how long it takes to do this kind of work, e.g. putting in 21 double sockets, 3 doubles in each of 7 rooms? How much it might cost? and... Does the electrician doing it have to have a special qualification?

How many sockets should a room have?

I have just bought the place, haven't moved in, am going to get a new boiler and get the place repainted. Its difficult to imagine how many sockets might be needed in each room, I'm currently living in a large studio flat, where you do most of your living in one room, and there's quite a lot...

How many sockets should a room have?

Sure its up to me, I was just wondering what other people have found convenient. I haven't owned until recently, so I just don't think about these things.

How many sockets should a room have?

I had a decorator look at my house today and he reckoned that I wanted at least 4 double sockets in each room. Some only have two. It got me thinking, which is a rare thing, and I was wondering what anybody/everybody else thought about this? I'm just about to get the place decorated so...

Replacing all the plaster in a house - is this feasible?

Cheers for your views. I had a friend, 2 decorators and a plasterer come around the last few days, and none of them could find any problems with the plaster. I don't understand how it is that the surveyor could have concluded that the plaster in the house was in a very poor condition...

Cost-benefit:Lining paper v skimming (when repainting walls)

I am going to have all the walls in the house repainted. Almost all the walls have been lined and some have been wallpapered. Where the lining is in s poor condition, the job will involve taking off the old lining paper before repainting. The house is 1930s, with a 1980s extension, and...

Replacing all the plaster in a house - is this feasible?

Looking at the walls today, they seemed to be in reasonable shape, although there were some hollow noises here and there where the plaster had seemingly blown. There were a few cracks here or there in the walls and in the ceiling. I've included photos. Should I have all the plaster in my...
