    Early plastic pipe

Acorn was originally brown (Before it became Hepworth) but was polybutylene and Push Fit, this stuff is more rigid and doesn’t age well.

    Early plastic pipe

Some of the old solvent weld plastic becomes so brittle you’d be better off ripping it all out and replacing with copper or Hep2o. Once you start disturbing it you can open a real can of worms. I recall a whole estate in Runcorn had it all replaced because of problems.

Removing brass olive from shower solenoid valve

I think it’s because plastic is an oil based product, some jointing compounds are oil based therefore could degrade the plastic pipe. For the same reason they say not to use oil based paints if you paint the pipes.

Removing brass olive from shower solenoid valve

Plastic pipe manufacturers say not to use and type of jointing compounds, copper olive with PTFE tape if required. Check if ok to use on plastic.

    The end of gas boilers....

Potentially, the government stand to lose around £28b per year in fuel duty when petrol and diesel cars disappear from the UK’s roads. No real comment from them as to how they are going to recover this money, can’t really increase the electricity tariffs across the board as non car owners would...

    The end of gas boilers....

All these figures that the vehicle manufacturers are quoting will be under laboratory conditions, not when your crawling in traffic with your lights, wipers, heated screen, heater, radio etc on. As previously said, the infrastructure needed to go 100% electric, not just the physical charging...

    Alarm control panel in garage

Most garages will be fine, damp and rodents are your main worries. If garage is joined to your house then the adjoining wall would be preferable to an outside one.

    hikvision dvr in loft..

Mine is in the loft, mounted approx 1 mtr off the floor in a metal box with twin fans ducted to outside, been up there for over 3 years without problem. When I installed it I ran a HDMI cable along with 2 USB cables (one from the front and one from the rear of the DVR) to the room below that I...

Help please - Texecom Veritas Excel Panel Instal

Check the obvious first, make sure lids on keypads, PIR’s and panel are all seated correctly. You say that you have used 4 core cable for keypads and detectors, have you wired the detectors as EOL or Global tamper (you would need 6 core for Global) assuming the detectors are PIR’s and not just...

    Whats this make of fitting

They use a “M” ring rather than an “O” ring, once they have been depressurised / demounted then struggle to seal again. You can buy a Demounting tool, bit like a circlip spanner, but better cutting it out and using either Hep2o or compression fittings is the way to go.

Push Fit or not and how to get it off

Osma Gold used a “M” ring instead of an “O” ring once depressurised and demounted they were prone to leaking. Best advice is to cut them out and replace.

Compression fitting tightness on plastic pipe?

Copper olives and a wrap or 3 of PTFE tape if required, you should keep jointing paste or any oil based products well away from plastic pipes / fittings.

Advice on what undefloor heating products to use

Google hepcalc it’s a Hep2o UFH calculator that will produce a detailed quote and list of materials for you. It will then give you an idea of how many circuits (zones) you need and how many ports on the manifold.

    Push-fit seals breaking down?

I’d be very surprised if the “O” rings have failed or are failing, they are made from EPDM rubber and have to undergo rigorous testing not only for temperature and pressure cycling but also for chemical resistance (central heating inhibitors etc) and of course be WRAS approved.

    CCTV worth fitting?

I installed a CCTV system approx 10 years ago (650 TVL cameras, fairly basic DVR), upgraded 18 months ago to Hikvision 5mp System, easily set up for remote viewing on iPad and iPhone and wouldn’t be without it. Managed to capture a number of incidents (anti social behaviour / criminal damage)...

wimpey build central heating flexible pipe

As Dan says, a photo may help. It will probably be either Speedfit or Hep2o, newer Taylor Wimpey houses should have Hep2o installed, some of the older ones had a dual specification and could be either Hep2o or Speedfit. Have a look under the sink, basin etc to see if any fittings are visible...

    Technical Information on Pushfit installation?

Most of the leading brands have their own, comprehensive installer guides, covering all aspects of product usage and installation. I’m taking it that Whitespeed (I’ve never even heard of them before) don’t have such a guide. Personally, if going down the pushfit route, I would steer clear of...

    Hikvision security flaws

As far as I’m aware the issue has been fixed by firmware updates. The last few systems I have installed have been Hikvision Turbo 4 DVR with 5MP cameras. I have run cat5e cable instead of coax and used baluns at each end, the cat5e cable takes the power as well as video and works very well...

Grey push fit circa 1998 - is this compatible with Polyplumb 10mm

As above, replace fitting “like for like” so that the “O” ring sits on the same undamaged section of pipe, also give the fitting a pull back to make sure the teeth bite ok where the damaged pipe is.
