    16Amp oven - on a socket circuit?

...my wife would on appreciate little stickers on every socket and since both cooker circuit and ring have B32 MCB's it would need some investigation to see if a 6mm² cable or 2 x 2.5mm² cables are being used. And this would need checking both ends of cable in case there is a lollipop arrangement.

Installing extra appliance, electric supply advice needed

It is 'safe'; how can it be non-compliant? Reverse lollipop? App.15A does not state that those shown are the or only options. 15B does depict the arrangement so it is just the connection to a ring that is disputed. 433.1.103 does not define or describe unfused spurs but the rest of the...

    Bad idea??

...ring circuit, you'd have to have the relay upstream (MCB side) of where the circuit split into the two arms of the ring, turning it into a 'lollipop' circuit. If you were taking this sort of approach, surely far better to take a spur (if a ring) or branch (if a radial) from the sockets...

    Garage supply

Unless you're talking about a 'lollipop' circuit (which would probably stimulate some discussion), to run a ring in the garage from an MCB in the house would require at least 5-core (some would say at least 4-core) SWA. Far better to have a 4mm² radial sockets circuit in the garage, I would...

Still a bit unclear and don't know what 'binned off' means but - Are you saying this is a 'lollipop' circuit?

    Ring main from shower feed?

...People sometimes hang a ring off the end of an old shower or cooker cable, without an intervening CU for the final circuits (known as a 'lollipop' circuit). I inherited such a set-up in my cellar, and lived with it for a good few years. Provided all the cables are suitable for the...

    Security Lighting

One can have what is often called a lollipop ring. Do you mean 230W or 230V? As far as 230W goes you would need planning permission and it is an odd size. As far as 230V goes you could have a string of lights with 3W LED bulbs around 450 bulbs on a 6A MCB. In the main as said so called...

    Positive Discrimination - Positive Action

...again. Then a teacher's post becomes vacant and the new member of staff is a Radcliffe-Smythe! The another vacancy occurs for a lollipop person and a non-family member is employed. It's pretty obvious that although a token Positive Action is being practised, it is not in the spirit...

    Electrical Problem, melted charger!!!?

...Kettle 3kW, tumble dryer 3kW, Oven 3kW = circa 9Kw, approx 40 amps. My house is on a single ring, including a 2.6kW electric over and a 3kW kettle, but fortunately the conservatory is on its own circuit (a lollipop using an old shower supply in fact) with the washer and dryer in it...

Power for Washing Machine and Dryer

I have many times talked about the lollipop idea and I am not sure if it complies or not. APPENDIX 15 is only informative although most would look at it as part of the regulations but regulations states: The main bit here is:- 1) 30 A or 32 A protective device even if one was to use 4mm²...

    Kitchen Socket Positions

    Drachma for your thoughts

Not a lot of point. There can be a place for them with very short radial stubs at the CU (search here for "lollipop"). They're just as dangerous as a normal ring, and harder to test and describe. We did, but usually we find that 1 phase is enough to give to people. 3-phase is more...

Strange goings on with a wall lamp.

...this was no real issue, other than the introduction of a couple of 'unnecessarily' connections. Ring final circuits technically became 'lollipops', since there was a single cable (I imagine 4mm²) from MCB to the external 'main switch' (where the two legs of the ring originated). Given that...

Adding RCD to a ring final.

...it might confuse some people testing the installation). Indeed, if one wants to be pedantic, every ring final could be argued to be a 'lollipop', in as much as there are some conductors within the fuse housing or MCB before the circuit splits into the two legs of the ring. However...

Adding RCD to a ring final.

It is well known as a "lollipop circuit". Why should it not be allowed? Providing all criteria are met ref loading, distribution of load around the ring, ins res , etc etc. Unorthodox but certainly allowed. Not one of your standard circuits though but not that uncommon. (if the radial...

Definition of 'new circuit' (new notifiability - England)

What about a double lollipop with one 'stick'? If properly designed it may be better than a single but obviously one circuit. The same for a several branch star radial. The only difference is that the junction is not at the mcb.
