    Porch downlights (with crummy diagram)

Hi there, Thanks to all for your replies and suggestions. I checked the connections at the FCU, the PIR and each lamp earlier today. I'm happy that I wired as I intended and as intructions state. In response to an earlier point, Lamp 1's live is connected to L1 on the PIR and each...

    Porch downlights (with crummy diagram)

Went ahead and installed this design this morning, but I'm having a small problem. Lamp 3 constantly blows immediately after switching the FCU. Sometimes it manages to survive until the FCU is switched for second or third time, but it eventually goes. I've gone through 3 cheapo GU10s and...

    Porch downlights (with crummy diagram)

Based on similar threads I've read on this and other forums, I'm led to believe that any electrical work done to the exterior of a house is notifiable/Part P covered (a porch technically is outside). Am I wrong in that assumption?

    Yellow sockets

Ah... 'metal housing' is perhaps the correct term? 'Cavity box' sounded better than 'metal boxy thingamijig'. :D Thought as much. Thanks for confirming. Cool. Thanks for the input. Really appreciated. Wish I'd signed up earlier.

    Yellow sockets

Nah, not the cavity box itself (sorry, my poor description), but the plastic behind the socket faceplate. See pic below (of duly isolated circuit): The other slightly worrying thing is that they haven't earthed the metal faceplate back to the cavity box. I've read that you can 'rely'...

    Yellow sockets

Hi there, Had a look through the wiki but couldn't see anything of direct relevance, so... Moved into a property about four months ago (first property I've owned) and the previous owners had a kitchen fitted about 18 months prior. I've removed one of the socket faces to have a look at...
