    Safeguarding radius when installing cables

More and more homes are now getting CCTV though. I think the point is if you're going to go to all the expense and hassle of fitting a network system, seems silly to not go that little bit extra and make it gigabit compliant. I often tend to work with files of the 100s mb size so at non...

    Safeguarding radius when installing cables

Uploading simultaneous HD CCTV signals to a NAS could be one..... I plan to setup a gigabit network in my house as I'm looking have a central server and pull files off it.

Can i use Celotex 50mm Foil Backed Boards on plastered wall?

You don't paint it. You lay the inslation slabs up against the wall. Tape the seams to form a vapour barrier and then use 25x50 battens to keep the boards in place. You then screw 12.5mm plasterboard to these battens and then finish the boards.

    Building Regs And Insulation

To be honest I've no idea! I was just told put X mm of celotex insulation in and it'll comply. He didn't give the type (I'm assuming GA4000) or any U-values. The project is a semi-detached 1930s ex council house renovation and all I can think off is that because I've taken most of the plaster...

    Building Regs And Insulation

Hi, Had my first BCO visit this week and he's told me I have to put in 50mm Celotex on all exterior walls, 75mm in stud walls, 275mm in the loft and "as much as you can get" in between floor joists - which at 175mm deep is rather alot! Do I really have to go to this level to comply? I'm...

    LABC and Regs

Apparently I can do the work on a DIY basis with site visits at 1st fix and 2nd fix - but I have to use and pay for a specific company to get them to test it which again breaches the approved document... Anyway I'll get the BN put in and then crack on!

    LABC and Regs

And thus under UK Law, (namely the Building Act 1984) they must act in compliance with the approved document which by refusing to test they're not doing.

    LABC and Regs

To be fair, I'm fairly confident I could, but some obscure reg could always catch me out, and that's if I had a 17th edition qualification as well! But to me there is a situation where someone who hasn't a clue with any regs can arise and rewire a house and Part P caters for this. I don't...

    LABC and Regs

Yup that's what I make of the Approved Document. Whether it's prctical or not is another thread  I'm just intrigued by what is technically possibly under the document and why the LABC seem to see fit to enforce only a section.

    LABC and Regs

http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/br/BR_PDF_ADP_2006.pdf I'd copy and paste it but Adobe won't let me for some reason. If you look at sections 1.24 under the heading "Where installers are not qualified to complete BS7671 completion certificates" Paragraph 1.26 says "BC bodies will...

    LABC and Regs

See even that doesn't fit with the Approved Document. What I'm talking about here is where it's done on a DIY basis and where you're not qualified to test to BS7671 it says you don't have to test anything as that's what the BC will do for you. Hmmm looks like it's gonna be a long phone...

    LABC and Regs

The cost isn't an issue really (up to a point obviously). That's where the disagreement is. Before today I thought that was the case but the person I spoke to, who had to put me on hold to confirm with someone else, stated: "Unless you have 17th edition quals and experience filling in a...

    LABC and Regs

Hi, I've recently purchased a property and since I have an electrical background (including a degree in electrical engineering) I planned to carry out the rewire myself with my LABC signing it off and testing at various stages. I should point out here that I don't mean to imply I'm...

Sistering Joists To Comply With Regs...

Hi, I'm carrying out a 3 bed 1930s semi renovation and having moved the bathroom upstairs I've sistered the joists as specified by my structural engineer (same size timber, M12 coachbolted and toothed connectors at 450 centres). BCO is coming round for first inspection on Monday and am a...

Knock through all or part of kitchen / living room wall?

If that was me....I'd be looking to knock the bathroom and kitchen together and move the bathroom upstairs (if there isn't one there already). Either way I agree with brian, a living room and kitchen should be separate.....you tend to make lots of noise in the kitchen and disturb TV watching...

    1930s house fuse box

I've recently bought a 1930s house which looks to be in similar condition to yours...at least with regards to wiring.... There was both PVC and VIR wiring in mine and used cable reels had the date of manufacture as late 50s - early 60s (can't remember the exact year). How many sockets has...

How To Bypass Bell Tamper On A Galaxy?

I've managed to get it to set successfully and when the bell tamper is tampered with call my mobile repeatedly. Next up is to wire in a PIR sensor :D
