    Car revs question

But, a diesel with twice the range, only half as likely to run out. I have never in fact run out, but should I do so, a gallon of fuel in container, can easily be sourced. If your milk float ran out of fuel, you are stuck - no simple gallon can for you..

Baxi Bermuda no CH but HW working

If there is only the one valve, with the pipework of the valve, forming a T shape - then it is a 3-port valve. Valves sticking, are a common problem, often it is the electrical part on top of the actual water valve, which sticks - called the actuator. Many valves, have a separately replaceable...

Baxi Bermuda no CH but HW working

Ensure it is enabled via the timer, to run the central heating first. Does it have a 3-port valve, or possible two 2-port valves, to switch the heated water flow, between HW and CH? This would likely be in the airing cupboard, if you have one, where the hot water cylinder is located. These...

    Tractor mower issues

The adjustment, two nuts either side of the bracket, locking one against the other - only moving the deck forward or backward, an inch or two, rather than much up or down. An earlier tractor mower I had, raised and lowered the entire deck fully, but it lacked the anti-scalp wheels this one...

    Looking after an SLA battery

I only usually put mine on charge, after use. Basically I park it, straight in my workshop, which has the charger mounted on the wall, ready to plug straight in, before I even get off it. It then stays on charge, until the charger shows a green LED, then it is unplugged, after until next time it...

    Looking after an SLA battery

No, that is the 'rule' for lithium cells, as used in your laptop, and phone - some devices include that 80% limiter. For SLA they suggest try to limit discharge, to 50%.

    Looking after an SLA battery

Mobility scooter batteries in particular, plus leisure batteries... What is the best way to get the longest working life out of them? I have always been of the opinion, to use them, use as little of the capacity as possible then fully recharge them, and keep them fully charged. Every few...

Well, at least I would not be stuck at the roadside, with a flat traction battery.

    Repairing smsll items

Oh, I have just bought one! For years, I have repaired such hard plastic items, by the use of a hot soldering iron, and office staples. Struggling to get the hot iron, to heat the staples up enough to sink into the plastic - The gun, makes it so much easier, by passing a high current/low voltage...

    What have you bought today?

A trip up the street, to look in some of the charity shops, to see if they had anything useful, then on to Lidl to do a bit of restocking. I spotted a Halfords rechargeable tyre/inflatable, light, come USB unit, with programmable tyre pressures for £5, so I grabbed it. It was totally flat, so on...

    Tractor mower issues

Lawnflite (701 rings a bell) - maybe double check later on actual model number... It's old, it's rusty, deck rusted, but it generally does the job eventually. B&S engine is completely reliable. I bought it very second-hand, many years ago. A couple of weeks ago, I got it out for the first cut...

    Hinges on Garage Side Door

They look as if they have been made specifically for, or by the garage manufacturer, which leaves you with sourcing from the garage manufacturer (unlikely), or adapting something ready made. Maybe something like this https://www.woodworkersuk.co.uk/cranked-band-and-gudgeon-hinges/ Or something...

    Car revs question

Same here, I find I mostly run mine between 1000 and 2000rpm, it's a bit of a monster if I get it to 3000rpm, and leaves any following vehicles way behind. 50+ mpg most of the time, on a run.
