    Downlights underneath loft floorboards

Do you mean because of heat? If so and you are using energy efficient bulbs or LEDs I am no expert but I cannot see a few watts being much or a problem, the old type bulbs maybe a nother kettle of fish.

    Laying Parquet onto concrete

I am about to lay a reclaimed parquet floor. Last year I did the living room this year I am doing my dining room. However the concrete surface in the dining room was cracked and loose so I have lifted previous surface what I presume was a self levelling compound. The surface underneath is...

Central Heatintg will not turn off.

Actually I think I might be a bit mistaken here. I have now found that can turn the CH off if I turn down the thermostat. What I cannot do is control when it goes on and off from the programmer. So no matter what position the programmer is in as long as the living room is below the temp...

Central Heatintg will not turn off.

The wires were connected back up by adding an inline connector, which was much easier than going to the junction box. The wires were connected colour to colour to the original wiring ie blue to blue etc. The original wiring was working last week ie prior to the CH pump replacement. The...

Central Heatintg will not turn off.

I have not managed to talk to him yet. Any idea to what could be the problem?

    Heating won't turn off

Do you mean the valve in the new motarised valve or a different valve?

Central Heatintg will not turn off.

Prior to last week my CH was working fine. The CH pump died and was replaced by a plumber earlier this week. However the central heating then would not turn off even when the controller was set to off, it worked fine prior to last week. Suspecting the motarised valve microswitch this has...

    Replacement of a motarised valve.

It is a Honeywell but sadly it is the oldtype so it is a no go with just changing the head.

    Replacement of a motarised valve.

My CH motarised valve has died. After much effort I have undone the top and bottom nut but cannot seem to move the valve itself out as there appears to be little movement in the pipes top and bottom. Presumably I will have to lift or drop one of the pipes a little to be able to get past...

    Replacement for Wilo Gold60

OK it seems to have quit completely now. The pump has stopped and there is a distinct smell of burning electronics about it. Assuming that it really does need replacing, what would you suggest?

    Replacement for Wilo Gold60

The problem with the pump seems related to the electrics rather than the pump itself. Last week it refused to start until I tried selecting a different speed. Yesterday it stopped and I had to twist the speed controller back and forth a few times and I now seem to have only one speed when it...

    Replacement for Wilo Gold60

My CH pump, a Wilo Gold 60 seems to be giving up the ghost so I would welcome a recommendation for a replacement of at least the same power anything that would help getting the water to the far reaches of the house would help.

    Plunge saw with guide

Hi, I want to cut the border out of the parquet floor that I am laying. Does anyone know where I can hire a plunge saw with guide rails in the Essex area? I have tried the usual suspects, HSS, Speedy etc without luck. I can buy one but that seems a waste for a single job. Or has...

    Parquet and not square room

I have four ideas. 1) Build the border square to the inglenook and cut the wall side border blocks to fit. 2) Build the border fully square and fill the differential with an Oak board. 3) Build the pattern square to the inglenook but cut the borders parallel to the wall ie not the...

    Parquet and not square room

It might be helpful to see what I am talking about. At the moment I have dry laid the middle strip parallel to the inglenook but this means it is not parallel to the side walls as show. The short line next to the wall is parallel to the wall, the long line is square to the inglenook.
