Floating oak beam - bent supporting screws

Hi, We had our walls plastered and they removed our floating oak beam over the fireplace. The fixings have been left in the back of the beam and are bent. They are quite a thick diameter screw and I wondered how I could remove them from the wood to start again. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Gap behind skirting etc

The builder did it, then their work finished, then the floor was put down, and now someone else is doing the skirting, im not expecting them to plaster, hence my question. I'm not going to have the wall entirely plastered again.

    Gap behind skirting etc

I know, just another thing I missed after after builders finished. It's been a stress and I don't want to ask them back. I'm not sure why they left it like that. I assumed the skirting covered it but it doesn't. So that leaves me to do the best I can.

    Gap behind skirting etc

Hi, We have been having our house renovated and the walls plastered , old skirting removed. New skirting is being fitted next week but in one area there is a 1cm or so deep gap and the skirting isn't high enough to cover it. Can anyone suggest a solution? I'm not quite sure how to deal with...

Mira advanced ATL replacement electric shower

Thanks, I should have started with the fix but I had seen other people had asked on other posts and other forums and I tried all the solutions. I even went through various solutions with Mira customer support, so I had given up. It was actually my mum's shower due to her disability, it was only...

Mira advanced ATL replacement electric shower

Thank you again, if you had not posted I would not have tried again. It works!!! I shut down the water and electricity, then loosened a plastic black bolt which looked like a filter on the unit that is connected to the water supply. Water dripped out. Turned it all back on and hey presto it was...

Mira advanced ATL replacement electric shower

Thank you. I'm going to try this now as you suggest. That was my plan but it was £180.00 fix fee from Mira and if it was beyond repair it would be £80.00 then over £400 to replace. The shower switches on but no water and just beeps with all the lights flashing. I have tried all the suggested...

Mira advanced ATL replacement electric shower

Thanks, I did that yesterday and there is only a small hole where the cable and the water pipe come through, the rest is all good. It was only recently done and I asked the electrician to do the wiring to handle a 10kw shower. So I hope that is the case, but will get a professional to install...

Mira advanced ATL replacement electric shower

Hi, We have a Mira advanced shower which we no longer want as it has stopped working, plus it isn't very powerful, but with the water pipe coming up from the bottom on the right, I am unclear what replacement options we have. Also as you can see we dont have a huge amount of room on the...

Lining paper on ceiling. Best approach

Hi, We have a small narrow hallway with recessed lights. I am a complete novice regarding wallpapering and wondered what the best approach was to deal with the recessed lighting as we want to use lining paper over the ceiling. Would you go straight down the length in one long strip or across...

    Sanding old table

Hi, I have an oak table from Next, a few years old now and the top has been ruined. It's the same one as in this photo, although they have looked after theirs much better than I have. I want to sand the top down but unsure how to finish it to match the legs. I appreciate it's just a photo, I...

    Decking quote

Thanks, I think I will talk to them about it in a nice way. That it seems a little expensive and to break it down for me. It's annoying as they are really good, but it should be fair. It feels somewhat plucked from the air.

I think you are right, once through through door everything seemed like a hike in price, apart from what we planned originally. I am new to all of this so big lessons on my part in terms of setting an exact scope of work from the start and associated costs. I never had that. So lots of extra...

    Decking quote

I hope that isn;t the case as they seem so honest and built my double extension. But I was starting to get a little questioning if I'm honest as some of the quotes seemed a little out there. I'm a little worried now that I have been paying inflated prices for everything. I don't know if I even...

Thanks. One was 3.5 including vat 6.5k excluding VAT And 5k including VAT The 6.5k is the 4 weeks of work. The others in days. It's over paving stones, which are not great in places, and 300mm in height, so nothing out of the ordinary.

I have had other quotes now from firms considered top end which are cheaper by nearly 2k. The original most expensive quote said it would take 3 - 4 weeks to build. I'm wondering what the big difference is, as in what they intend to do others would do in days. Is there anything specific I...

    Flooring on screed and wood

We have just had am extension built which is a knock through into the original house. The new part is screed and the old floorboards. The builders suggest Amtico click with a fibreboard underlay, adding skirting over the top. Floor company insists it needs plywood all over and stick down...
