    Sander Adaptor to vacuum cleaner

Certain tools - do I need them?

I am more of a DIY than trade, although I am lucky to have worked alongside a well equipped wood and metal workshop with high end tools. I do up old bikes so could take advantage of work but not take the mickey. So I also use LIDL/Aldi and because I go to autojumbles I pick up stuff like taps...

    Smell removal (bitumen) from teak

I’m using it as flooring, unsure quite what finish yet. Possibly polyurethane but more likely Bono flooring stuff. I can try the heat option as well. Once I had removed the bitumen and planed the blocks, I stored them in cardboard boxes, about 30-35 to a box, folded lids but not sealed, boxes...

    Smell removal (bitumen) from teak

I am trying an experiment. Several years ago I bought some reclaimed teak online, it was covered in the bitumen that held it down and was a bitch to remove, but I managed it. I have run it through a planer both sides and it’s been stored for over a year in cardboard boxes. I am getting ready...

Help with shed foundations in waterlogged ground

I have no experience of them but.. My shed sits on fence posts. It’s 30 years old or older These days they make posts from recycled plastic. Would this material be suitable to make a base from? It’s supposed to be akin to timber where fixings are concerned. But not subject to moisture.

How to carpet top step internal corner

Sometimes it’s good to know your strengths, and your weaknesses. years ago my parents used an old school carpet fitter to move the living room carpet after a house move. It was an Axminster, so good quality on a woven base and you couldn’t really see a join. Might be worth asking local fitters...

How to carpet top step internal corner

II am no carpet fitter, but could you continue the stair run up to the landing? And wrap the landing down where the RH step is? Joining the carpet (ideally sewn if possible) on the line of the top landing ?

You can store up to 10 litres at home when using plastic cans, more if in metal but it’s below about 40 I think

Which way should these doors be hinged?

Stained glass? Etched style? Modern obscured is less “Granny” than a heavy frost. You could have a high level window or a roof light?

Which way should these doors be hinged?

I can see the point. Just putting it out there. One advantage of an opening out door is security as it’s harder to batter your way in. A well known bike club near me has only outward opening doors.

Which way should these doors be hinged?

My house, a semi, originally had an open porch. When I moved in, the porch was enclosed with a pair of glazed doors opening in, with a fixed glazed panel on each side. The doors are a tight fit when using one, but fine for normal pedestrian, both open for moving boxes. Several houses had...

Operation of a motobike lift table.

Just ensure that the table is ok to be outside if it has electrics in it. Our massive car sized lift which sits outdoors has a control box at the side with a waterproof enclosure Your lift, if electric, may have been designed for internal use only. It’s not an idea killer, just ensure that...

Operation of a motobike lift table.

Look for something like this? You would get better quality from R/S/CPC This would allow you to power it from a 13A socket in the house (if 13A is ok) and switch it off when nobody is in residence but when someone’s there, leave it on (and down) then use the remote to switch on the power...

Where to buy replacement conservatory roof vent?

My old roof had two of those - from wickes. Solar powered, on/off and you could twist them 120° and pull the mushroom cap down for winter.

Insulate garage door and fill gaps at side

I can’t comment on your door and mine was probably 20 years ago but I think I used a pair of rods that could be inserted into the winder. You needed to wind one up, then when a second hole appears, insert a second. Remove number one, wind number two, exposing another hole and so on.

Old house, what would this be?

I understood that the chimney had a metal oven-like box in the flue? So using residual heat for cooking?

Old house, what would this be?

Given the hassle of lighting a large fire on one day a week for the copper, why not use it to also provide heat for cooking? Something that needed slow cooking could be shoved into the small oven, meaning that the day could be entirely set aside for washing. No need to stop for meal preparation...
