Maybe if we just knock that wall down.

If your self managing wave goodbye to nights searching porn, say hello to nights searching joist hangers and pipe fittings! Foundations are 600mm wide and same depth as the existing, 1700mm :-(

WALLS! The plan has changed slightly along the way. A smaller sliding door, 7.5m instead of 9m is to be used purely because of cost. And that's where we currently are. Cheers.

For the proposed kitchen island. For the first floor bathroom.

Block work for sliding door. Threshold is to be flush with FFL. Blues are are a terrible match. Who knew there were so many different types of blues! Time to sort out the existing soil pipe. Like an episode of Time Team.

Lots of grey water drainage to re-route. For slot drain in front of the sliding door.

This will be getting moved. Lots of Trenchflow, 13 cubic meters I think. All unused pipes blocked, didn't want to see how far the Trenchflow would actually flow.

Cheaper than a skip. Some pipes were know about! Disused pipe blocked up. Useful for WW1 reenactments. Managed to find the grey water pipe right along the back wall of the extension!

It all started with wanting to knock through between the Kitchen and dining room and having a slightly leaky conservatory... After a few quotes where I swear the decimal point was in the wrong place, I started watching lots of YouTube videos...... Luckily they let anyone hire these...

    Timber to RSJ web

Hi. Just a floor above. Bedroom is being decorated above so not too arduous to remove floor boards. Bolts are staggered every 600mm. Was planning on using these. https://www.metrofixings.co.uk/main/product/productinfo/14354/Simpson%20Strong-Tie%20SAE380/50/2/25%2050mm%20Width/1 Cheers.

    Timber to RSJ web

I have an internal load bearing wall being taken out to be replaced with a steel that is being installed 'into' the ceiling to achieve a constant ceiling height. Plan is as below. Any issues? Cheers dudes.

The final say, combi boilers and two showers....

Update time: Went for the Baxi Duo-tec 40 Combi in the end. So far so good. There is a drop in temperature when you are using the shower and someone else uses a hot tap/shower but not a massive drop and you can either live with it or turn the shower round to hotter and all is good again in the...

    Plasterboard/fireproofing RSJ's hidden in ceiling

Hi. Currently building an extension that involves some steels that are all above ceiling height. Steels A & B are at the rear of the existing house for the cavity wall. Steel C is at a right angle to A & B between the existing kitchen and dining room. Steel D is 4m away to the left, it's just...

Thanks Tony. I called him something other than a "baby" Woody which is why I think we're not currently talking.

    Structural timber types

The timber roof beams. The question was really if a C24 63mm x 200mm timber is specified, can I use a that size but with a wooden I-Beam or a metal web open joist? Do the engineered options have the same loading characteristics as the solid piece of timber. Cheers.

    Structural timber types

Oh I've paid unfortunately. See https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/steel-bean-cavity-wall-sizes.478881/ We have a difference of opinion about if the beam is fit for purpose, ie fits the existing wall/house and he wont recalculate. At first he wouldn't recalculate with me paying more, now he...

    Structural timber types

Is there a difference in the strengths of structural timber types of the same size? If a structural engineer specified a 63x200 C24 timber section I could use either a C24 timber, a wooden I-Joists or a metal web open joists of that size or greater? I would ask my SE but we're currently not on...

    Waste to Soil pipe

Thanks Nige. I will probably dig down as it's only gravel so I can cut the pipe down, fit an clay to plastic adaptor then place one of those waste to soil fittings on top. I would rather not have a sub stack as it's down a tight alley down the side of the hose and I don't want to make it any...

    Waste to Soil pipe

Hi. I currently have the below set up for my utility waste. As you can see, it's leaking and not great. Is it possible to replace with something like: or Also as part of a kitchen remodelling I will require a new sink waste where there isn't currently a soil pipe, can I use one of the...
