If the piston is sticking, perhaps the lifting wire is not aligned correctly? You should be able to shorten (or bend) the wire if necessary.

Clamp the bar with mole-grips or similar, near side of the orange arm, then use a scredriver blade between the grips and the arm to lever the arm away.

If the doors opened outwards it would give more options for internal bracing/storage.
