Patio Paving Slabs - light coloured mortar

Thanks for the tip on white cement. Following the tip I also found snowcrete which looks like the same thing. Sorry to be ignorant on this but - do I need to add sand like I would with ordinary cement? If so could I still have a problem with the orange coloured builder's sand affecting the colour?

Patio Paving Slabs - light coloured mortar

The mortar between my patio slabs has cracked due to age. I would like to replace it with some light coloured mortar/cement. The mix I have tried uses builder's sand with the cement - but the colour is too orange for my liking (due to the orange sand). I wonder if I could use playpit sand which...

Advice - save 25% on heating bills??!

Thanks for the feedback Inky Pete and big-all. Big-all with respect to you saying you would expect a 2% saving, is this based on anything scientific/objective? It seems to me that it would be easy to test these products under lab conditions; as insullation is a big thing these days I am puzzled...

    Integral Fridge Door hinges

Hi foxhole. No It doesn't look like there is a sliding mechanism - there seems to be soming like springsteel in the hinge itself that allows it to travel outwards a bit on opening. Here's a picture of it http://www.diynot.com/network/brianroberts/albums/ Thanks

Hi - I have a fridge built into the kitchen units. The outer door is part of the kitchen paneling whilst the inner door is part of the fridge. The inner door is attached to the outer door which in turn is hinged (3 hinges) to the inside of the housing cabinet. The bottom hinge has started not to...

Non trade purchase of double glazed window

Hi - I just want to put in a double glazed unit in my back door (top half). On the internet when I look to purchase such a unit I always seem to be directed to trade installers. Do the manufacturers only sell to trade? Or is there a chance a humble DIYer can source the units directly? If so I...

    Quary Tiles - what grouting?

Many thanks for the advise EB1caneyeB - I will do as you suggest. Re slipping - no not had a problem because there is an overhang porch roof so most tiles stay dry. The only ones with a problem are at the edge where some rain does fall but people do not tend to tread there.

    Quary Tiles - what grouting?

Hi - my front doorstep has 15mm x 15mm quarry tiles exposed to the elements. Some are now cracked and I am going to order some replacements. I was going to set them in using quick drying waterproof cement (Cementone). However I wonder if I need to use specific tile grouting. perhaps I need...
