There is no gap between the wires and the ceiling. The wires come out where the wall meets the ceiling. I will try and upload more photos - just getting the hang of that. :?

Thanks. Karndean fitter said defo go with asphalt. The concrete surface in the kitchen is slightly different to that in the utility room which is noted as an outbuilding on the survey.
