Visible tape joints after painting plasterboard

Well obviously new plasterboard was put in on the lower section. Hence you needing to joint it. Probably as that was the extent of the old tile line in the former bathroom? The heavy trowel marks in the first photo suggest he got on the skim a bit late. He needed to get a good depth on the...

Strengthen loft joints with perpendicular battens

I wouldn't worry we quite often add 350kg water tanks (Megaflo) into lofts. Just try and spread your weights over multiple trusses

    Metal Shed Roof Insulation

I used 25mm celotex stuck to the underside of the metal roof with spray adhesive. This was effective as it stopped the roof freezing in cold weather and in turn condesation forming on the underside of the frozen panel. However come the heat of summer the spray glue reemulsified and some of the...

Loft conversion - new attic trusses vs. modify existing

Attic trusses are half the price of an equivalent cut roof conversion. We did a hip to gable conversion in February 22. The truss designer do all the calculations and design for you based on your planning consultants drawings. The only thing we needed the SE calcs for was the lintel loadings...

New Baxi boiler - weather compensation not connected, does it matter?

Its there to enable a box to be ticked. The get out for boiler plus compliance is outdoor sensor. No-one has told the sparks about it though. Generally outdoor sensors cause more problems than there worth. Every boiler I have ever fitted W. C to we have had to go back and disconnect it...

    Loft extension staircase

Hi I'm trying to get my head around the bannister wall of my stairwell opening. Our loft is attic trusses we replaced the entire roof as it was cheaper than converting it. My constant struggle has been getting enough room for a 1700mm Bath in the upstairs bathroom and a reasonable landing...

Leaking shower screen - remove this silicone?

Not that it matters but the screws have been fitted to the wrong side of the profile. On that bath screen the wall profile should be sealed against the tile on the inside vertically and on the outside vertically a small bead should run on the bottom up to the seal as well.

Installer insists on Combi with unvented cylinder

A system boiler is just a combi boiler with the plate and divertor blanked off. We used to fit combis on swimming pool setups with the hot water capped off. As yes they are cheaper to buy.

Current lead times for building work?

Theres so much wrong with that statement! A kitchen fitter is a kitchen fitter. You see some of the worst examples of rough plumbing in Kitchens. Your kitchen fitter is probably a chippy what skillset makes him competant or qualified to fit your bathroom? Chippy rates are probably a third less...

    New shower installed-discoloured sealant

Has the profile been sealed on the outside and the inside? Has the top cap been put on the profile. If yes and yes and no.. The profile is full of water and the screws they used didn't come with the enclosure as there rusting!!

Chipboard laid over wet underfloor heating pipes?

If using liquid screed use trays. Clipping is only any good for normal screeds. The whole trays vs clipping is only a cost decision by the contractor to save money. Clipped pipes tend to float/lift up with a liquid screed.

    Shower Tray Installation

The whole builders doing bathrooms thing I've never understood. Just because they do it cheaper than plumbers. I started a new job two weeks ago and we look after a lot of rental properties the quality of the plumbing is shocking. Got called out to one ground floor flat, fairly newly fitted...
