That could have been for any electrical work, not necessarily related to the extension. At the time, plenty of electrical items were notifiable including most things outside, alterations or additions in a kitchen, new circuits anywhere, a replacement consumer unit, most things in a bathroom or...

New oil to gas install. Bottom of rads cold.

The real question is whether the rooms are at the temperature you want. If they are - not a problem. Contrary to what plenty of people believe, radiators are not intended to be blazing hot all the time.

    AC Installation - Career change

Yes, it will. Already does for solar, and heat pumps will either already be there or certainly won't be very long.. Unless you already have a sizeable customer base who want to pay decent amounts for such things, it's a waste of time. 'new' customers are likely to just go with the cheapest...

    Fuse box tripping?

It's disconnecting the circuit from the consumer unit and then testing the whole circuit. If a problem is found, then you disconnect at a light or switch about halfway, and test each half. Repeat until problem is found. If the 'electrician' used doesn't know this, tell them to get back on their...

20a IEC connector on a welder

Only rated to 20A in the USA where they use UL ratings - a system where a sample is sent for testing and when that passes some arbitrary test, the rest of the batch of 100000 items also magically complies. Those connectors and the cables attached to them are 16A everywhere else that uses IEC...

Bathroom heated mirror - exposed wagos used to make electrical connection

They should be in an enclosure, although it may be difficult to find one which is shallow enough to fit behind the mirror. Another option is a plug/socket arrangement such as https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/GKLC20.html

    Wylex plug in mcb availability

They may have decided that, but shoving >30A through the standard contacts does damage them, as on the example here https://flameport.com/electric_museum/wylex_fuse_boxes/wylex_standard_2.cs4 The difference between them is the standard 30A versions have a spring piece made from the copper...

    Fuse box tripping?

'slow powering down' is a made up story. Loose wire in a ceiling rose would not cause intermittent tripping. No, that one is pretty much brand new and even if it wasn't, replacing it won't find or fix the problem. No. Actually testing the circuit would be the first thing to do.

    Wylex plug in mcb availability

They all will be, those plug in type of MCBs for the Wylex Standard range were discontinued well over a decade ago. The actual boxes and other parts went away long before that.

20a IEC connector on a welder

C20 connectors and the other half which is a C19 are rated 16 amps, not 20. If the welder is a maximum of 16A then theoretically it would be suitable, however the situations in which a welder is likely to be used are probably not the place where a C20/19 type of connector is suitable.

    AC Installation - Career change

Total waste of time without the rest of the electrical knowledge to go with it. Even with that it's mostly a waste of time, with car vendors, energy suppliers and other bandwagon companies offering to sling in EV charging equipment for next to nothing before riding off into the sunset and...

    Is this chipboard?

Asbestos containing materials were never labelled, the only time any labelling is applied is if an asbestos survey has been done in the last couple of decades and the material was identified then.

Plug in solar, what do you think?

The other problem is whether the circuit this solar is plugged into is suitable for having energy shoved into it in a direction it was never intended for. No person buying such equipment will check this or even know that it was necessary.

Help needed for changing an old 2 way 2 gang switch with a modern touch switch

That product and the instructions have been created by people who have never seen UK wiring and neither care or know how it works. Totally unsuitable for the intended application, and as it supposedly works without a neutral, good luck using that with any modern LED lighting.

Bathroom extractor fan what to do poor job

Why is this extractor installed at all - wall clearly not painted or finished in any way, neither is the ceiling. Is this one of those affairs where decorator imposters come in later and slap emulsion paint over everything? Questionable location for the isolator on the adjacent wall.

Buying a 2nd hand car instead of an EV

That isn't the point. The majority of vehicles spend the majority of their time parked up. That is where charging should occur so how long it takes is irrelevant. The car will be parked there anyway - an extra few seconds to shove a cable into the car is the only additional effort. Today that...
