How do you get this cartridge out of the tap?

But what's so confusing is that it seems to be too large - how did it ever fit in? Could it have expanded? Cartridge_nofit by Justin0 posted 19 Oct 2019 at 5:56 PM

How do you get this cartridge out of the tap?

So now I've got the cartridge out, which I was intending to replace on the basis it was broken. Except I found a strange thing when I took it out. One of the gaskets (is that what it is?) wasn't in the cartridge at all, it was loose in the tap: Cartridge1 by Justin0 posted 19 Oct 2019 at 5:56...

How do you get this cartridge out of the tap?

Thanks! I used a mole grip and it did the job. I was afraid I'd break something but it was fine, although it flexed a fair bit. Here is the nylon ring: Nylon_ring by Justin0 posted 19 Oct 2019 at 5:56 PM

How do you get this cartridge out of the tap?

Right, but how? If you look 1:20 into the youtube link I posted, an adapter is placed over the nylon ring with the slots that allows it to be unscrewed using a spanner or socket. But I don't know where to find that adapter or what its called.

How do you get this cartridge out of the tap?

We've got a Sottini lever tap that has started leaking out of the handle when turned on. I've never replaced a tap cartridge before, but following various youtube videos I removed the handle and went to take out the cartridge. However the online examples suggest there should be a large metal...

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

Yes the main reason this would be challenging for me is that its not easy to access the other side of the wall where the cable comes into the kitchen (the cabling was evidently installed before the plastering and kitchen units were put in). Furthermore I'd be hesitant to extend the ring myself...

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

This is all very informative, thanks. So to be clear, the CCC tables are explicitly calculated assuming a fusing factor of 1.45, and that is stated in the BS7671 guidelines? I had not seen this because unfortunately I don't have them, I have seen the CCC table repeated on various sites but...

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

Thanks. I wonder if it's diagrams like this that have him confused. He's still convinced that the cable needs to be rated to at least double the fuse rating, anyway o_O

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

That's true but he is concerned that the FCU has a cable before it at all (rather than wired directly into the ring), and my point has been that there is no difference in the load before and after, so it should make no difference. Yet this example shows such a difference. In this example, why...

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

Thanks JohnW2 for digging that out. But actually looking at it I feel like it might back up the electrician's case, because: 1) The cable going into the FCU is larger than that coming out (ignoring the fact that it's 2.5 going in, as in my setup) 2) That comment about the number of sockets...

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

I actually used that exact same comparison with him right at the beginning, before he convinced me to rewire everything in a line, but he didn't accept it was the same thing or met regulations.

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

You're right about that but we've been liaising for quite a while and I don't want to ghost him, I'd like to let him know my reasons as authoritatively as possible. In his last message he said "the interpretations of an untrained member of the public that reads regulations from a book or off...

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

That makes a lot of sense, and is what I had always assumed, thanks. Does anyone have the ability to post a picture of somewhere in the regulations where it might indicate that cable ratings allow for this overload? And furthermore, JohnW2 indicated there was an example of an FCU "inline" on a...

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

The electrician has returned to his point that the fuse won't protect against long-term overload. As he said before: "that cable will be unprotected to sustained overload & long term damage despite being protected by a limiting fuse. Fuses work fine in a short circuit but in an over load can...

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

It's a good question. The answer is that I originally got him in to put a socket in the garden, because I understand that is "Part P" work. This would connect inside the garage. So he needs to be happy with the wiring in the garage before he does the installation.

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

Searching online I found this: https://www.flameport.com/electric/socket_outlet_circuits/branch_tree.cs4 I assume that is the same flameport as on this thread? "A new circuit should never be designed in this way, but alterations and additions to existing radial circuits can result in this...

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

So do you think the examples in the books don't include an FCU inline at the start of a spur rather than wired into the ring? Does anyone round here have access to some of these books?

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

Thanks everyone for your input, it's very helpful. It's a shame because he states on his card he is an NIC EIC approved contractor, he seems a nice guy and I don't get the impression he's trying to rip me off (he's not asking for extra payment for this). It's also not as though he's being a...

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

Thanks for the explanation, I must have misunderstood what radial means - I thought from what he was saying that everything had to be in a single line. That is a pain, because I've largely rewired everything for apparently no reason! On to the second point, the FCU itself. I've got a bit more...

Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating?

Thanks for the reply. When you say "socket to socket" do you mean I could still have branched out from them (that is one socket then splits to two more sockets etc). Because the reason I was branching, rather than going in a single line, was to reduce the length of the cable. Now I've gone...
