Vaillant Turbomax plus 828/e refill tap broken

I just had a quick look on Ebay - you can buy just the handle you broke, its called a key. Looks like a fancy radiator key. It's probably designed to break before the valve. In the meantime squirt a little wd40 over several hours to let it soak in. Then try your radiator key, back and forth a...

    Remove old gas pipes

Steel pipes are threaded at the ends and joined by screwing joints onto them. You'd have to unscrew it at a joint then screw on a threaded f cap or threaded m plug.

    Moving boiler into loft

My son just bought a house with the boiler in the loft and its 14 years old - it is a pain. A filling loop and pressure guage has been installed in the old airing cupboard where all the pipes come down - that helps to keep an eye on the pressure. A good point is that the water is clean up there...

    New towel radiator

Any switch needs to be outside the bathroom ( or a pull switch). The outside switch could be a time switch. I think the thermostat is internal to prevent overheating, no room temperature control as such.

    Toilet plumbing issue

Once you have cut the cast iron, measure the internal diameter 80, 85 or 90mm and get the connector of the size and length required. Search for "cast iron toilet connector". As the outlet slopes downward, you mayneed another flexi like the one you have.

    Toilet plumbing issue

Toilet connectors fit inside the cast iron pipe so the old collar can be cut off. You will probably need a new connector of the right size. Angle grinder will throw up dust. We did one with a hacksaw - we got a packet of new blades and me and my son took shifts of 10 minutes or so. Took 2-3...

    Boiler losing pressure

Try the bubble test on the valve - soap bubbles will show up the leak. As a test, you could put a cap on it to see if that fixes it or slows it down. You can change the insert on the shraeder valve if its the same as a car valve - have to de-pressurise the system. Get some valve inserts from...

    Bathroom Sink waste leaking.

Could be the bottle trap can' t cope with the flow so backs up causing the leak higher up. I prefer P or S traps (so called u bends) which don't block so easily. Try cleaning the bottle trap just improve things while you are looking for the seal.

Cost of gas meter? (new supply)

We had smart meter from SSE a year ago. It is SMETS2. Switched to EDF and they can' t read it! I give them meter readings when needed but i can read them off the remote display , gas & electric. In fact smart meters are more difficult to read manually because you have to cycle through the...
