    isolator between cu and meter

You okay Ban :?: You've been as grumpy as Breezer in your last few posts .........

    isolator between cu and meter

.....oh, and keep the fuse in your pocket while you work. This avoids 1) losing it, and 2) the highly embarrasing effect caused when a helpful assistant re-inserts the fuse before you are ready. You might also like to check that the fuse rating agrees with that on the holder label (mine didnt!)

    isolator between cu and meter

I have the benefit that my fuse is in the outside meter cabinet, over which I have absolutely no control in the event that a scallywag may wish to some and interfere with me (as it were). I can (try) to deny it was anything to do with me, guvnor. You might wish to check though that the meter...

    isolator between cu and meter

I don't think working live is a particularly good idea, personally. Having done a similar/same (DIY) job, the thought of manipulating live tails into the cramped confines of the enclosure (it is small inside) and thence into the isolator itself would give me the willies. I really would not do...

Hot Cup = Heat Stain (in Ducal Top) = Dog House

..so I didn't think, etc. Is there a trick to get the heat stain out of the wood? This is below the varnish finish - so doesnt seem obvious to me at the mo. Can anyone advise?

Terminal Block and 'Wrapping with Tape'

Thx guys - the choc block cover looks smart. Off topic follow-up question ..... what is that wiring shown in the picture? Telephone or Alarm system?

Terminal Block and 'Wrapping with Tape'

I'd like, if I may, to cast myself upon the mercy of the forum yet again..... :? I have the instructions for a ceiling mounted luminaire. This states that the loop-in terminal block (a very standard bit of 4 way choc block supplied with brown, blue, earth already connected) should be...

    Improved earth

sh, Maybe my experience is relevent. I also have a TT system and recently upgraded my CU with RCDs and MCBs (from wire fuses and a huge old 500mA incomer RCD). I got a suitably employed person to 'pull the fuse' on the QT as a favour. I agree that additional earth rods won't do anything...

    Tightening connections

...as I have, hence my request (granted thanks) for its current ratings to be posted in the reference section of this forum. Like the original poster, the strands of my lighting circuit were breaking off at the CU end. Its susceptibility to rough handling is presumably why it was superceded...

    Roof Leaking or Not?

'planks of wood'?? Do you mean planks or do you mean battens? Anyway, the wet might be blown-in rain. I assume the roof isn't felted? In which case any blown precipitation (rain, sleet, snow, etc.) can get in. The frosty nail thing might be condesation (from a bathroom maybe). This...

    Earth detection

OSG? = On-Site Guide  see the Reference section (page 2; posted by B-A-S), where you will find, among others http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0863413749 ...though I have to say that although the OSG states the (rather puny in certain cases) CSA for TT supply earthing...

Strange things happening with my r/c dimmer switch

sifu ..... if this were not a mains circuit with lethal voltages, I would carefully try to flex the switch front plate (while 'hanging free'), and see if the exhibits the same effect. If it did it might suggest a loose connection or broken circuit board inside the guts of the housing. This would...

    2.5 gigapixel picture, fascinating

Well spotted - but it just shows where the individual pictures have been assembled to form the composite picture. (The pictures were taken at different times!!) If you look 'south west' of the bus there is half a person walking along the side of the same road (dark trousers & half a light top)

ok scientists and ologists explain this one to me then

To a stationary observer, standing by the roadside say, watching a vehicle go by at 60mph, will see the bottom of the wheel stationary (as previously asserted). The top of the tyre will have to be moving forward at 2 x 60mph = 120mph. If you dont like this, just think of a stick touching a...
