    Felling a tree technique

You are on dangerous ground (and maybe litigation too if things go wrong). It's safer to de-limb the tree as far as possible, get a rope round it and pull......but we don't know what's in the way! John :)

    Fiat part expertise requested

The thin wall of these makes them ideal for certain vehicles - Nissan Qashqai 1600 anyone? The magnetic facility is great too. Not sure about the wobble effect though but on the Suzuki Hyabusa you can't get direct onto the plug. If you can get by with what you have, leave it there! John :)

    Motorway tolls

Having ridden many thousands of miles in my favourite country, I prefer the Toll roads if I need to get there quickly but the RN's if I have more time. One thing, if there are deviations to the route due to 'routes barre' then the diversion can be 30 miles at times. Toll roads naturally tend to...

Maybe there could be a draught blowing round there.....spray foam perhaps? John

Brake Lights Constantly On - Peugeot 206

The multiplug that fixes into the rear of the lamp unit is well known to fail....likewise are the bulb holder connections that tend to rust. Consider bending the male pins a tiny amount to see if you can get a connection again - but I mean tiny! Be lucky John

Brake Lights Constantly On - Peugeot 206

There is, and you need to check the earth connection from the lamp unit to the body shell.......running a new cable if needs be. I assume that the correct bulbs are fitted to the holders of course! (Two pin bulbs pushed into a single pin holder for example). LED stop / tail lamps won't make any...

Van is leaking in the roof

Best remove the rack and send us a photo of any damage, I think......the brackets are usually spot welded in place but you may be able to repair with a bolt. John :)

Roofing screws......slight dome head, 6mm nut for me! John

    Mountfield lower handle snapped advice

I think these brackets are only to allow the handles to be mounted at variable angles, but if you want to bolt them to the deck directly and it won’t interfere with anything behind then go for it! John

    Recommended strimmer head

I think there may be a technique issue here........ Don't bump the spool onto hard ground - every make will fail prematurely if you do. To expel the line, rev the machine up and as it returns to idle, bump the spool on grass. Use the correct diameter of line Don't wind too much line on the...

I've got a complaint with my new motor already!

My motor eats a fob battery every 6 months......worth keeping a spare nearby! John :)

I've got a complaint with my new motor already!

A disc cleaning programme is a completely new one on me! Time I packed it in. Anyhoo, we all know that the rear discs don’t do a great deal compared to the front so I’d be surprised if they cleaned up perfectly. Good luck with your hybrid, I’m well pleased with my Yaris Cross at 60.1 mpg -...

I've got a complaint with my new motor already!

Not good - they have surface rust already which will just be polished by braking, rather than being removed. Replacement needed! John :)

Van is leaking in the roof

Occasionally the roof rack mountings tear on these - if they have been overloaded so it's rack off to check. If no joy there, then consider the aerial mounting which comes loose when bashed. You can sometimes access this by removing the courtesy lamp inside. John :)

    What a konk

I’ve just returned from three nights in Goathland.....a few miles NW from the fire. One hell of a scene but thankfully for us the smoke was heading out to sea, eventually veering north towards Whitby. Brilliant work from the local community who have worked constantly to contain the blaze. John

    Clicking clutch pedal

That horrible plastic ratchet is engraved on my skull.....my back and neck haven’t been the same since! Devils design, that one. John

    Clicking clutch pedal

Can you clarify for us if your clutch has a cable or is hydraulically operated please? If it has a cable, it sounds like an automatic pedal adjuster giving problems. John :)

    Caliper mounting thread repair advice

Thanks! Just looked at the repair on a larger screen and I can see it well now. That is a first class repair and I didn’t know such a thing existed. Well impressed! Regards John
