    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

The Electrician is back and I've shown him some pictures from the 2017 renovation which clearly show the wiring is all in the ceiling space, but he said he would have found that out when he took the first faceplate off anyway. I also have measured, by eye, where that suspicious screw in the wall...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

The first is definitely true. The second I believe so. It's been a few days since I can claim seeing KITCHEN SOCKETS on at all, I can't be 100%. I think he turned all MCBs on and left the RCD down at one point (we were talking things through while he was testing, sorry). I'll pay more...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

It's kinda out of my hands now. ;) I do care about learning approaches, but I care more about the final solution now that I've decided to pay-up. That an Electrician visited and didn't fix it within five minutes is kinda gratifying (in a perverse kind of way). I now realise I likely did all I...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

The Electrician visited today... no success so far and he's going to start tomorrow by removing all sockets and doing testing that sounded like what you guys have described. Just to answer a couple of things... I turned on the outside lights and they work fine - so are on the OUTSIDE LIGHTS...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

It used to be an extractor, controlled by an above counter switch, back in 2017, then it was removed and an over-hob light was fitted, then that was removed and a new extractor was put in... I think it's a fair bet it's on KITCHEN SOCKETS... and, right now, it doesn't work as KITCHEN SOCKETS...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

It's my lack of expertise here... I guess I mean, when I get everything ready to try and test and flip the KITCHEN SOCKETS MCB, I do, the RCD trips and the MCB is down? I didn't mean to puzzle anyone... just trying to describe my experiences probably using inaccurate language.

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

There is a circuit called LIGHTS OUTSIDE as you can see in my picture of the consumer board. Is it right next to the faulty circuit too... but I had assumed it was unrelated and lights are not supplied by the socket circuit in question. I will try to turn on the outside lights... just to know...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

Absolutely - and this is why I've kinda thrown my hands up in the air after admitting "as far as I can tell". It's not a large space... above the worktop are only 3 x double-sockets, under the cabinets are 2 x double-sockets - one for washing machine and one for the fridge freezer... I can't see...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

The property doesn't have any outside sockets. It does have some outside lights, but I was told - here - that would be a red-herring. With the help received here I think I've reached the limit of what I can - realistically - do. I'm just pleased it's looking like I don't need to replace an...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

With everything unplugged the RCD can be set to ON, sure, but once the troublesome circuit is set to ON, the RCD trips once more and the MCB goes to OFF. What you have said here makes perfect sense to me, but what's surprising me is that the circuit in question cannot be set to ON even if...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

He explained something like this in my call with him. Thanks. It makes sense. I suppose no-one cares when they know a socket on the floor is going to be hidden behind a baseboard. He also said it would be a rare case where he needed to do any chasing-out of walls.

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

No, it was £250 starting price and he could be here in 3 hours.... Nottingham to Barnsley. Anyway, it's down to £150 for the first hour now... I don't see a problem with that... when you can't resolve it yourself you have to pay, and it's not extortionate (well, yet ;)).

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

Thanks for that bit of advice, we actually had a pretty good chat and he explained it's cos it's Sunday and quite a way away. We've now arranged he will visit tomorrow afternoon and the starting cost will be £150. As I now know the oven works, the hob works and the fridge freezer works (and I...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

I have now done this, and plugged in into a socket on another circuit (SOCKETS GROUND FLOOR) and it is working away happily. I am at a loss (to be fair, I always was).

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

I'm back, they're in a much better situation now than before. I firstly took a closer look at the consumer board and immediately saw that COOKER is on a separate circuit to KITCHEN SOCKETS, so I turned the isolator switch back on and the oven and hob now turn on... so she is cooking a chicken...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

There is an extractor hood, yes - and I didn't buy it or fit it - but I asked them about it and it is not even remotely new. I know that when their tenancy started 3 years ago - this was actually an over-hob light fitting. I may have a closer look at this, I don't think I saw a socket for it. I...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

I think the hob is hard-wired to an isolation switch. I think the oven is plugged-in to a socket directly behind it. I will remove baseboard to ascertain what I can about the fridge freezer (I stood on a chair and behind the cupboards there is definitely some space - about 10cm, where it...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

Yes, thanks, I can confirm this. The RCD is UP, OUTSIDE LIGHTS is UP, KITCHEN SOCKETS is DOWN. At least I can rule OUTSIDE LIGHTS out. I have removed all plugs from sockets that I can see - I can confirm this also includes the washer, there is no dishwasher here. So I'm now back to the hidden...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

It is raining right now, and OUTSIDE LIGHTS is directly to the left of KITCHEN SOCKETS in the consumer unit, obviously on the same RCD. That circuit has never flipped DOWN while I've been looking at things. If I flip OUTSIDE LIGHTS DOWN, could it have an impact on KITCHEN SOCKETS?

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

Reporting back, I've been down (they're very close)... I removed all visible sockets that I could see... all I can not see is the oven / hob (isolated though) and the fridge freezer (maybe that's behind a bit of kitchen baseboard - as it's an integrated model)... and as soon as I flipped KITCHEN...
