No one near me wants this job - New ground rod

Thanks everyone who has replied, I've been spoiled with ideas. Ive called yet another electrician and asked for an EICR and planning to install the new rod day before he gets here. May buy one of the cheap testers mentioned above to give myself some confidence in the new rod install before...

No one near me wants this job - New ground rod

I was planning on wrapping some self amalgamating tape I have around the top few inches that pass through the concrete before I mortar up around it.

No one near me wants this job - New ground rod

That's a novel idea. My latest brainwave is chop back the concrete immediately around the old rod, buy a threaded coupler (both old and new rods are 5/8), hope the threads match, then use SDS driver to push the old rod 4' further into the earth and this end up with an improvement. Also would...

No one near me wants this job - New ground rod

Well, there is no gas in my area and the mains cables are overhead. Mains water and sewers come and and go out of the property elsewhere. I think my risk of services is therefore limited to drains/gulleys from/under the patio. It's also a bit close the the wall (foundations) but it's only a...

No one near me wants this job - New ground rod

I'm happy to pay for an EICR, house last had one in 2021 before I moved in so it would be comforting anyway. Ive order a new 5/8 rod (same as existing), rod driver, a new box and and clamp. Would it be legal for me to flip my master switch off, pull the old rod out (might not be easy...

No one near me wants this job - New ground rod

Keen not to hit services (although I believe there are none in that area. Hence thinking new rod alongside old rod seems the best spot?

No one near me wants this job - New ground rod

Thanks for your responses - I'm pretty sure the rod needs replacing too, not just the clamp. Perhaps I could drive a new rod in alongside the existing one and just swap it over with a new clamp, then EICR to follow?

No one near me wants this job - New ground rod

Hi all, I've failed now three times to get even a quotation out of nearby electricians to do this job. Power comes to my house overhead, and we have a ground earth rod in the back garden. For some reason, years ago, the inspection pit was installed proud of the concrete base that it passes...

Can I reroute this condensate pipe into the drain?

Thankyou both. I will go for it then. It is indeed too low to connect into the white waste pipe internally, but the idea about it coming through the wall by that pipe could work. Great idea, thanks. It looks to me like it can come out as indicated on this pic: By the way, can you tell from...

Can I reroute this condensate pipe into the drain?

Hi all, The white pipe pictured comes from my Grant Vortex oil boiler. There is nothing wrong here, except that my kids are now of an age that they want to play with basketballs etc on the patio and I can just see this getting broken. Same with the black pipe, which goes to our earth rod...

Wet brickwork around soil vent pipe

Thanks all for your responses. Screenshot attached of the same area in dry weather, taken last summer. Does seem likely to be rainwater. Agreed, I need to get up there. Thanks

Wet brickwork around soil vent pipe

P.s - looking in the eaves, I can see that the breeze block on the inside of this is dry.

Wet brickwork around soil vent pipe

Hi all, I noticed this today - the damp patch around the area where this soil vent pipe enters/exits the brickwork. It's quite high up there so I'm not exactly rushing to grab my ladder. May opt to hire a scaffold tower. Anyway, can anyone tell if this looks like this is just condensation...

Best way to strengthen this joist notch?

Sorry to resurrect this. With this approach, the sister would need notching too, same dimension as the original. Is it still worth doing?

Best way to strengthen this joist notch?

Thanks for responding. Wouldn't the sister also needs a notch of the same depth to accommodate the pipe?

Best way to strengthen this joist notch?

Hi all, This is in my own house. I'm not panicking because it has been there years (don't know exactly how many). It's in the middle of a roughly 3m span across the room (I know...) and it's probably 40% joist depth. Just one joist is notched like this. There is already a piece of ply screwed...
