Electrical socket is live but nothing works in it?

By supply end you mean the main fuse box for the house? What would I check there it's all just circuit breakers isn't it? And yes I turned off the supply by flicking both the kitchen and ground floor circuit breakers before opening the socket.

Electrical socket is live but nothing works in it?

And the lost neutral scenario.... obviously there is a neutral wire on the socket and it is connected, so what is meant by the term 'lost'? Damaged?

Electrical socket is live but nothing works in it?

Sorry I wrote the wrong thing back there, I DO KNOW the yellow/greens are earths, it's because I had that 'lost neutral' thing in my head that must have made me write 'two neutral' wires. Anyways thanks for the responses, I'll try cutting the wires back and see if that works, I'm hoping it...

Electrical socket is live but nothing works in it?

Thanks for the replies. So in terms of 'cutting back' I presume you mean shorten the wires slightly and take some of the plastic covering off. Not sure what you mean by re terminate (stick them back in the faceplate?) or lost neutral? I've changed the faceplate for a new one as can be seen...

How to fill this large hole in ceiling?

Currently renovating our kitchen and have taken some 1980s polystyrene tiles off the ceiling. Most came off fine but in one corner there's a large(ish) hole (picture below) in the corner of the room where the ceiling and walls meet. It was packed with all kinds of rubbish, newspaper, old bits...

Matt emulsion won't stick to sanded wall????

So I'm in the process of decorating my stairs and hallway, and one of the 'walls' I'm wanting to paint with dulux Matt emulsion is the wall that houses the under stairs cupboard. Now when I say 'wall' it actually appears to be paneled wood with about 50 years worth of white paint on top, the...

Spotlight bar wiring - HELP!! :(

Ok so I've wired up the light as shown in the picture and as described above. Everything is working - the light itself and all the other upstairs lights. I've tested the fan cable I pushed into the loft with a volt pen - both with the isolator switch switched on and off whilst the light is...
