    Leaking filling loop

Who would be able to provide help to vulnerable people? he is elderly and bed bound. The housing association won't help with garden growth.

    Leaking filling loop

My dad's boiler has low pressure so I tried to increase the pressure but as soon as I turn the filling loop valve, it leaks! I think the valve is faulty as the plastic valve handle is already half broke. He lives in a housing association so I will ask them to send a gas engineer round to fix...

    Is this an isolation valve?

I did google "restrictor elbow" when Stuckinarut stated that it looked like one. It seems to say that they are often found for gas fires to restrict the flow of gas to the fire, but it also stated that it is used to shut off the gas supply to allow the gas fire to be serviced, which seems to be...

    Is this an isolation valve?

So it is only to regulate flow and can only reach a certain level of minimal flow. Thanks for the reply!

    Is this an isolation valve?

I see, thank you. So to restrict the gas flow, you turn that screw clockwise? And if you turn it clockwise fully, it would shut the gas off to the fire to allow servicing?

    Is this an isolation valve?

On one side of a cabinet is this valve, pictured, which looks like an isolation valve ( /elbow) and the other side is the pipe connecting to it, which then leads to the gas fire. There is gas supply to the fire so if this is the isolation valve, it is in the open position. I can't work out...

    FeF gas fire

Thank you for the reply. 1. Yes, the on/off control knob is fully turned to the right. What you have said makes sense now. 2. I am not planning to remove the gas fire as I would need a gas safe engineer to do that, and it is good advice that these sort of valves need to be tightness...

    FeF gas fire

I have an old FeF 16NV gas fire, which I would like to shut off. The picture shown shows two isolation points for the gas supply. I have looked at the supply pipe and it leads to the pipe labelled 2 in the picture. This then has a perdendicular pipe feeding the fire burner, labelled 1 in the...

    Stairs switches

It may be simple to you but not so to me, lol. I don't pay attention to the switch position normally. I just look at the light to determine which position I need to turn the switch so if it is on, I press the switch to turn it off and vice versa but I guess from what you and EFL are saying is...

    Stairs switches

Oh dear, now this is too confusing

    Stairs switches

I did think that my one way switch only had one COMM and one L1 so there is no way to swap the L1 and L2 but I couldn't rely on my memory. I couldn't turn the switch round because there was no space inside but with the new switch that I have bought, there may be more space. Thanks.

    Stairs switches

Thanks for the info! I called them neutral because the guy in the youtube video called them neutral  Thank you for the correction in terminology. I have an existing light switch that is upside down and it is a bit annoying, so I now know how to change that :giggle:

Thank you, that is very clear instructions :giggle:(y)

    Stairs switches

Thank you. This is the existing downstairs switch connection. Does it matter which live / red wire go into COM1 and COM2 (as long as the two neutrals on the same cable goes into the L1 and L2 on the same triangle)? The new switches have COM1 and COM2, whereas the old switches shown just has...

    Stairs switches

Thank you. Thinking of them as top and bottom row was very confusing. However, now that you have advised to think of them as triangles make a lot more sense!

    Stairs switches

I have old light switches at the top and bottom of my stairs and I want to change them to new ones. I have found this is the wiring set up for them at the moment. Downstairs switch is labelled like this Top row connectors A (COM) - red B (1 WAY) - yellow B (2 WAY) - blue Bottom row...

New roof - is this an issue?

I doubt that. It is not the customer responsibility to ensure the contractors are safe. It is the other way round, that the contractors are responsible for keeping the customers safe.

New roof - is this an issue?

No I am not trolling. The roofers all walk on the roofs and I was very impressed that they could stand on a steep roof quite easily. They must have a technique to do it. Certainly the roofer I got recently and the bunch I also got to do my roof recently did not use a roof ladder and were all...

    Bay window roof leak (Ed.)

First quote is too low. Sounds like a cowboy outfit, who will no doubt increase the price once they have ripped your roof open. I have fallen victim to that so I would not recommend anyone that quotes unrealistic low prices. Second quote sounds more realistic.
