Shower room extractor fan - Part 2 (the saga continues after a new fan is installed)

I think I may have done that on my first wiring attempt - I read the 'L1' incorrectly (didn't have my glasses on) and put the black wire into L1 and the red into L. Thankfully nothing bad happened. :) Thanks. If time allows tomorrow I'll try bridging L and L1 and report back. Unfortunately I...

Shower room extractor fan - Part 2 (the saga continues after a new fan is installed)

There was a very short stub of wire left in the SL screw terminal in the original fan - the stub is so short that it can barely be seen. As the live wire goes into L on the new fan and L1 has no wire, if I bridge L and L1 in the new fan is there any risk of anything going wrong - blowing a fuse...

Shower room extractor fan - Part 2 (the saga continues after a new fan is installed)

Thanks both of you, it sounds simple enough to wire L to L1 so I'm tempted to give that a try, but also perhaps contact an electrician to look into it all just to check the wiring for that part of the circuit. I guess that as it's wired right now it's perfectly safe in the sense that I've...

Shower room extractor fan - Part 2 (the saga continues after a new fan is installed)

Thought it best to make a new thread given that some of the circumstances have changed, this new thread continues on from the following: https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/shower-room-extractor-fan-used-to-turn-on-and-off-via-the-light-switch-but-now.644656/ So I installed a replacement fan -...

Thanks, think I'll take it down and investigate. :) Appreciate the help you've given as well as that from everyone else in this thread.

Shower room extractor fan - used to turn on and off via the light switch, but now ........

Before I'd not tried quickly switching it back on after turning it off. Yes, spinning it manually. I can't remember what it was like before this issue developed (it's been like this for a few years and as the room isn't used often because of a faulty shower (I'm awaiting a part for that) I've...

Shower room extractor fan - used to turn on and off via the light switch, but now ........

The order of events is as follows: 1. Turn on light switch (lights come on, but not the fan) 2. Pull the cord stump on the fan - the fan comes on 3. Turn off lights - they go out, as does the fan (it immediately starts to spin down) 4. Immediately after turning off the light switch, (or a...

Shower room extractor fan - used to turn on and off via the light switch, but now ........

Nope. Also, the shower room is illuminated with three 12v spotlights (as is my kitchen).

Shower room extractor fan - used to turn on and off via the light switch, but now ........

"Are you saying that the fan does not come on when the light is switched on, but can then be switched on (whilst the light is on) by pulling ghe fan's cord but that the fan then goes off (with the pull switch remaining 'on') when you switch off the light -and thst the fan does not come back on...

Shower room extractor fan - used to turn on and off via the light switch, but now ........

Good point - yes, I think it did (I should have added that it's been a few years since this issue first developed but the room isn't used much so I've not really looked into it).

Shower room extractor fan - used to turn on and off via the light switch, but now ........

The light switch outside the small shower room also turns on the extractor fan on the shower room ceiling. Or rather it used to, now when I turn on the light switch the light comes on but not the fan, to then turn on the fan I need to stand on a stepladder and pull the pull cord attachment on...

Garden bench - need some advice to make it more rigid, and a legs question

I've had a garden bench like the following for a few years: https://www.diy.com/departments/simply-wood-churchill-3-seater-garden-bench/5060749291492_BQ.prd My problem is that it's become less rigid of late in the horizontal plane (so it moves side to side a bit too much) - I tightened the...

Shower pump making a noise whenever hot water is turned off after use

The shower in my bathroom hasn't been used for years but yesterday I checked it out to make sure it was still functional - it was and the shower pump in the airing seems okay (but noisy, as it always was). However, since that test I'm now often (but not always) finding that after using any hot...

    Paint matching

I want to repaint just a small part of my lounge but need to get the same colour to avoid having to do it all. Are there any kind of paint sample strips that I can obtain to match it up with? The current paint seems like it could be some shade of magnolia.

Freezer gel packs - how do you dispose of yours?

This isn't 'shopping' in the normal sense, it's frozen dog food (and I doubt if DHL will take back the boxes and gel packs. I can ask of course). Because of this I end up with about 36 gel packs every month .......... it's quite a recent thing though, the dog food supplier used to use their own...

Freezer gel packs - how do you dispose of yours?

My local tip is about a 40 minute drive from me. Putting the gel into the general waste is an option but there's a lot of them and due to the liquid these things are heavy when in any kind of quantity, the contents will also add a lot of bulk and there is a limit on how many black bags I can put...

Freezer gel packs - how do you dispose of yours?

If I was to put my current 'collection' of gel packs into my large chest freezer I would have more gel packs than food ........ ;)

Freezer gel packs - how do you dispose of yours?

That's a good question, I guess because of the gel there's is a danger of blocking up the soakaway?
