    Is it just me

Just to add to the library of catastrophic electrical items, I found another today. A Wylex 3036 fuse carrier. Taken from an elderly gent in exchange for a brand new one of the correct rating. In case it's not obvious for reasons only known to the gentleman, he dug out the stuff covering the...

    Raids On Businesses

I've also had a great haircut from a Turkish barber. And he's been at me with a cut throat razor. AND I'm still alive. And talking of businesses handling cash only, Chinese takeaways round here are dreadful for it.

    Metal Back Box Clips

Thank you very much, Harry. I'd happily give them a go, but if I need to stick a spacer in, I might as well just glue wood to the plasterboard, let it go off and screw a standard metal box to it.

    Metal Back Box Clips

Thanks, but won't the pieces that jut out be visible?

    Metal Back Box Clips

Why thank you! All I'm trying to do is make a cleaner, neater install. I think my OCD is getting worse in my old age. I shall find another way to fix the boxes. The problem is that, with it being Paramount, there's bugger all wood to fix anything to. I think I'll either whack a load of...

    Metal Back Box Clips

Sorry, yes, it has been skimmed. But with the boxes removed. Yes, I've seen those Wylex flanges before online, but I too am struggling to work out how they work! I thought they were a common thing, but obviously not as common as I thought... I found these on Amazon, but again, I can't find...

    Metal Back Box Clips

You get a perfectly flush finish, with nothing visible, just like in a solid wall. Whereas, with a DL box, you get the accessory raised off the surface, albeit only slightly and in some cases, you can see the edges of the DLB too.

    Metal Back Box Clips

I'm wanting to fix metal back boxes into a hollow wall (Paramount), but not sure which are the best fixings. There's something called F Clips, but they don't seem the best. I suppose I could splodge a load of bonding in there, but it seems a bit amateurish...

    Metal Back Box Clips

Decided to replace the dry lining boxes after having the HS&L skimmed with metal back boxes. I know they're fairly new, but I've managed to go my whole career without using them. In your humble opinions, which are best?

    Shaver and toothbrush sockets

I bought a bathroom mirror cabinet in the UK years ago that had a shaver point built in. It didn't have a transformer. I didn't use it and instead installed a regular one adjacent. Much later, I removed the non compliant socket when upgrading the flu fittings in the cabinet to LEDs.

Was this bloke on the Clothes show..? I recognise him.

TBF, some people are in the ducking fark. The reason why we're in the dark is because we don't subscribe to soshull meedja and can't open the link. So we don't know who the hell you are banging on about. If you want to talk about someone why don't you just mention their bloody name, for...

This is not the country I moved to!

You missed my irony. We should never have fallen for Brexit. Ironically, the very person who pushed for Brexit (but didn't mind sitting as an MEP and collects a pension from that thank you very much, despite being very anti-EU) is now crowing about how he reckons he can fix it...yeah right...

Yes, in this case, the small boats arriving surged after Brexit. If we reverse Brexit, bingo.

    Check for overloaded cables?

I've seen enough installations in my time to know that the more junction boxes you see (other than certain lighting installations, which I'll get back to), the more it points to a DIY or incompetent installation. However, in the 1960s, the junction box method of wiring lighting became a popular...
