I built my entire extension with a paddle mixer, and a Brickie, it didn't matter that much with the Brickie but the mortar wasn't buttery like on those videos. I put it down to the paddle mixer not "folding" the mix and thus mixing air into it.

The ground level looks high and that pink render looks low, I wouldn't rush into anything without a thorough investigation. For £2.8k, as a diyer I'd expect to sort the render, ground level, drainage, replace all the paving and extend the patio in front of the french doors.

If you're just fixing a few strips up the wall to form the sides of your "box" then no nails will do it.

Drop them on some hangars or sit on a ledger and connect to your rafters with plywood sheathing.

Buy some "self amalgamating" tape, ideal for repairing that - it fuses together as you apply it.

As above, when you don't have a great deal, it's more about the pensions tax relief than taking risk to maximise returns. For your daughter, you should be funding a LISA for her, £4,000 a year, every year for as long as you can - if you'd done it last week and this week she'd already have...
