Non-bidirectional RCD/RCBO feeding sockets, should they get a code C2 with EICR?

It does not matter if, or when the government permits plug and play solar, it seems it is being bought and used anyway. We have seen the test on a non-bidirectional RCBO, OK needed the test button to be pressed, but with plug and play solar there is a potential danger that the protection device...

EICR, CU Fire Board - What Rules are Retrospective?

Interesting, I was under the impression that the fire board was for DNO equipment only, and in theory we should not mount the consumer unit on that board, even though we often do. My version of BS7671 is old (2008) can't justify £125 for new copy, so the reference does not refer to use of the...

    Bidirectional and data sheets.

Yes, the efixx video does as you say push the test button. They open it and show the three leg component has failed. The video says a year old. I did rewatch the video to see if it went in further, but no. It did look at voltage optimizers, and I was surprised at that bit. To my mind the 253...

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

She seems to work on the principle, if you can't find it, buy another. Which is why we have so much stuff we can't find. But I would not upset her.

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

I would question if they are an engineer i.e. over level 3 trained, if they believe that. As is mine, and it was a hard thing to decide how much to put on the EPS, the more on the EPS the less time it will last for. I have an old power pack, and that can run standard lamps etc. And a lead to...

    Bidirectional and data sheets.

Just went to look for the instructions which came with the RCBOs found boxes, no instructions. So seems they did not come with instructions.

    Bidirectional and data sheets.

With the first raised problem with uni-directional we were told if it did not state load, input, or other on the RCD we could consider it as being bidirectional, so what is L? Is that load, line, or live? Since in the main bus bars connect to the bottom I would assume it means line? I have seen...

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

To feed power into the grid, the power station needs to raise its voltage, so users near the power station will see voltage raise, those mid-way to high load will see voltage remain static, and those in the high load area will see the voltage drop. So we look at local area covered by a single...

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

Not when the end user is right next to a large generator, 420 MW will rise the voltage to a user the other side of the fence.

    Miswired light switch

Are you sure that is the correct diagram this will also work, note the bulb holder live is at both switches, so could be taken from the first switch.

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

Come on, you know ohms law. All cables have a resistance so if there is a long cable with generator one and load the other, so there must be a volt drop.

EICR - would this be inspected?

I find the problem is, until you remove the cover, you don't know if there is a room tight seal. And as how to test a room tight seal, I don't know, on my old central heating in my last house, I know there was a room tight seal, and if broken, i.e. cover not on the boiler, opening the garage...

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

Sorry incorrect, on the building of Sizewell 'B' the 'A' station was still running, and when demand was high we would see the voltage raise, quite common to see 260 volts single phase on the 'B' site, and also drop to 240 volts when demand was nationwide low. This caused a problem, the German...

    Consumer configuration query

I returned to the UK in the 1990s to find RCDs, RCCDs, ELCB-v, ELCB-c and the list goes on, with many names for basic same devices, it would seem in the main due to plastic water mains meaning the water main could no longer be used as an earth, and also the sixteen edition had been made into BS...

EICR - would this be inspected?

Agreed, seen it many times, the old regulation had a full stop before it referred to single core cables, which some selected not to see, it has been since clarified, and being over-marked is not permitted except for PEN conductors which we will not find after the DNO head. I have many times...

EICR - would this be inspected?

There is a problem with the English landlord law, Portable is considered as either under 18 kg or has wheels. The problem is the "fixed electrical equipment" with a standard current using equipment is tested when doing the inspection and testing of in-service electrical equipment often called...

I will agree something is not right with electric tariffs. We pay a standing charge to cover the infer structure we are told, if that's the case, then it should not change tariff to tariff, but it does. And I look at the tariffs for storage heaters which in the main are used by people with low...

    Bidirectional and data sheets.

The original RCDs were pure mechanical, no electronics were used, but early RCDs had problems. Any slight distortion when torquing up the terminals could cause them to fail. The use of electronics has resulted in improvements, the early RCDs did include type S, but types AC, A, F, and B were...

    Bidirectional and data sheets.

I think it is where something is powered from the devices output so once it trips the supply is auto broken, so when used the other way around it remains powered up even after it has tripped.
