    Are you talking about a thermostaic mixer valve type shower or one fed from a mixer on the bath taps.

    Or slide a piece of 100mm over it before concrete. It will make things a lot easier in the future should you need to replace it or clear a blockage.

    No disrespect but you don't need to have been a plumber for 50 years to know how to use a nut and threaded stud properly.

    The shroud is probably stuck to the ceiling with paint. Carefully lever it off after unscrewing the collar as TTC says.

    A screwdriver will tighten the bar into the tap assembly but a box spanner is needed to tighten the clip to the underside of the worktop

    Apparently one of the part F building regs mandates that a room with no opening window has to have a method of forced mechanical ventilation. Usually achieved by the use of a fan connected to the light. I know that was enforced 30 odd years ago when I built our bungalow

    Not sure about your insulation/ventilation concerns but if you are bothered by draughts have you considered replacing the downlights with modern led flush fittings.

    Is a soakaway necessary for a patio?

    A large soakaway across the boundry at the bottom of the garden fed with several French drains feeding it improved the problem with water sitting on our lawn on clay soil. Lot of work but worth it I think.
