Plug in balcony solar UK , just a Lidl question

Since it seems you will still need to register your going to use a generator connected to the grid, (note battery still seen as a generator even though it technically just stores energy) then some installed device will need to be registered instead. It seems we can use a EV point as it stands...

    Octopus Smart meter.

Yes, I would not provide them will readings either. The smart meter up north and down south is not the same. We have a north/south divide, I assume Isle of Wight is south so used mobile phone masts? But it is all too easy to forget there are two systems, it seems in the north they could revert...

    Octopus Smart meter.

They would probably have the same problem (with 'very poor mobile phone signal') in my house - which is why I've always told my supplier that if, despite that, they ever install a 'smart' meter in my house, I will thereafter flatly refuse to provide them with any meter readings ;) However, I...

    Octopus Smart meter.

Since virtually no mobile phone signal, any smart meter will likely fail to work in smart mode. So you will not get the benefits, and it will need a meter reader to visit, with an outside meter box, we did not even know when it was read, he just did it. However in this house, the meter is in...

Blocked smart meter install: Bunched tails in floating Henley blocks – how to get it sorted?

I would strongly advise you not to 'go near it'. However, when it's all 'made safe' (electricity disconnected) someone needs to get the tape off and find out what's going on underneath it. If it's before the meters, then no electrician would be allowed to work on it - only the DNO (or...

Blocked smart meter install: Bunched tails in floating Henley blocks – how to get it sorted?

I have tried that. They even sent an engineer out to have a look. They are saying it is "Private Wiring" as it's after their fuse. I am in Coventry so it's National Grid (Was western power). I am pretty sure it was Western Power who did it originally.

Blocked smart meter install: Bunched tails in floating Henley blocks – how to get it sorted?

The DNO are responsible everything before the meters. The DNO changes according to which area you live in, send them your photos and explain that you want it sorted so Octopus can fit a smart meter.

Blocked smart meter install: Bunched tails in floating Henley blocks – how to get it sorted?

I havent touched the tape and try not to even go near it..... Another issue is even if we all group together to pay for it, how can we get it done because it is before all of our meters so people don't want to work on it. It is also getting the other 3 flats to agree, they aren't bothered. One...

    Octopus Smart meter.

Yep. Again, yep. As I recetly wrote in another thread ... .... although 'dumb' it's not that far from being 'smart', other than lacking comms (although a comms module is available for it). Although mine is configured to just use two of the registers ('day' & 'night') for my E7 tariff, it...

Blocked smart meter install: Bunched tails in floating Henley blocks – how to get it sorted?

Hi everyone, Looking for some practical advice from the sparkies on here regarding a messy communal cupboard layout that's blocking me from getting a smart meter. I'm a leaseholder in a block of 4 flats, currently stuck on an inconvenient prepayment key meter. I just want a smart meter fitted...

...berween 10 and 25 years. The newer smaller digital type became cheaper to buy than it was to refurbish the old style black meters. Smart meters, especially the SMETS 1’s may well have been certified for 10 years as it was the early stages of the smart meter roll out. Your supplier is not...

    Octopus Smart meter.

Photo of the front of the meter will show manufacture and any re-calibration date almost certainly as well as make/model to find how often they need to be calibrated. They do have a life... LCD digits may fade away, mechanical motors and indicators stick. Smart apparently have a more frequent...

    Octopus Smart meter.

As I often say, although it's a long time since I've read one, my recollection is that the Agreements/Contracts that we are deemed to have signed (even if we've never seen them!) usually include our agreement that the supplier can install whatever 'metering or other equipment' that they see fit...

    Octopus Smart meter.

I very much doubt that it is literally true. However, if they are buying 'smart' meters 'by the million', but 'dumb' ones only occasionally in very small batches, the latter might be much more expensive for them. However, the main issue is undoubtedly the silly government-imposed 'targets' for...

    Gas meter type.

...years of age . Cant see a service not being buried deep enough causing the anti tamper device to activate . I have fitted /and attended thousands of meters with anti tamper device and never seen this as an issue. Smart meters can be fitted in dumb mode this may turn off the anti tamper part...

    Octopus Smart meter.

I did not want a smart meter, and I resisted, until not having one was going to cost me money. I do believe they can be fitted in a dumb mode, and my smart meter came in two parts, the top part does the coms work. But I still can't read the smart meter direct. Two buttons control the display...

    Octopus Smart meter.

As the government say you don't HAVE to have a smart meter I find that difficult to believe. Is your current meter labelled saying it has to be calibrated after a certain date. A new one on me to be honest. I thought they were only supposed to need doing after 25 years if ever. I also would have...

    Gas meter type.

Perhaps Octopus have no G6 meters and do not supply them anymore. Your supply agreement should clarify what they can and can't do. There is nothing wrong with smart meters. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/can-i-be-forced-to-have-a-smart-meter/

Replacement non smart meters are available, I don't know why these energy suppliers are stating otherwise and why it's a must for smart meters
