    RCD requirements for outside socket

@plugwash thank you, that's the clarity I needed. So it will be a deviation as concealed cables without mechanical protection require RCD. There is something about this electrical sub forum that is really frustrating sometimes. Not just me, people ask a simple clear question and get a thread...

    RCD requirements for outside socket

Can anyone either answer the question please or suggest a forum where I can get a straight answer?

    RCD requirements for outside socket

No transformer, they are 230v tools. They only do domestic.

    RCD requirements for outside socket

So is an RCD socket acceptable, supplied from a non RCD protected circuit? The circuit is concealed not surface run.

    RCD requirements for outside socket

It's an old cooker circuit on a B32. No longer used for cooker so I relocated the T&E outside in conduit and put an IP68 socket on the end. I'm pretty sure it's not inrush current. I moved them onto an RCBO because previously it was a twin RCD board and they were tripping the RCD and taking out...

    RCD requirements for outside socket

Hi, what is the current requirement for RCD additional protection on a socket circuit? Is it for just the socket outlets or for the whole circuit? I have builders in, who keep tripping the RCD with their mixer, pump, breaker etc. I have given them a dedicated circuit on it's own RCBO which at...

    First fix help

Thanks, a plumb line and marking the floor sounds like a good shout. Assuming plastic plasterboard boxes go in with 2nd fix?

    First fix help

Hi guys, a couple of first fix questions if I may? What do you do with accessory and socket wires? Tape in a circle and leave in roughly the right place? I have a mix of plasterboard and rendered walls so do you cut and fix back boxes in render as part of first fix (like chases) or as second...

    Upgrade of twin RCD box

Thanks everyone, I've found a BG cu kit with RCBOs SPD etc for under £200 so I'll buy that, swap out the guts and leave the old box on the wall. Might even be able to sell the leftovers as a complete twin RCD CU on eBay! @ericmark that plug in tester looks good, I didn't realise they did loop...

    Upgrade of twin RCD box

Hi @EFLImpudence BC in my area won't accept a MWC or EIC from me as I'm not a member of a competent persons scheme (and a DIYer). I can issue one but they won't accept it even with evidence of calibrated test gear. So if I upgrade from twin type AC RCDs to type A RCBOs now then I don't have...

    Upgrade of twin RCD box

@ericmark that's my point, by not changing the chassis of the CU then it's not notifiable! What are you saying is the issue in my design? I have a 100A DNO fuse and main switch, which is below predicted demand. No EV charger and 18 ways leaves plenty of space. The RCBOs are £20 and the SPD kit...

    Upgrade of twin RCD box

Hi For those with experience of BG Fortress... In another post I've seen that my BG twin RCD box is no longer considered suitable as it uses type AC RCDs. The solar people also installed their circuit onto one of the RCD sections which is a bit naughty. The installation is TN-S if that makes...

    Forced RCD Upgrade in CU

Is the suggestion that type AC RCDs aren't allowed a legitimate one? I thought that was only the case for EV chargers? Also practically speaking it makes sense now so many devices have SMPS.

    Tuck pointer

I use a filling knife to butter the bricks and slide them in, but using a hawk and tuck pointer seems to be a common way to fill the joints? At about 6:30 in:

    Tuck pointer

No standard bucket handle. I want a tool to pack mortar into a joint when I'm replacing individual bricks in a wall, and a tuck pointer seems to be the standard tool to do that? Other suggestions welcome.

    Tuck pointer

I have several bricks to chop out and replace so was thinking of buying a tuck pointer. What size? 6mm or 8mm perhaps? I was thinking it should be slightly narrower than the joint so 8mm best but then Screwfix sell 6mm and 12mm. Is stainless worth the extra? Any other suggestions? Thanks

    Should I radius slab edges?

Hi I've done footings and bedding/haunching before but am going to cast my first surface exposed slab. Looking at YouTube videos they are all USA and seem to use a corner trowel to round off the edges...
