    Suggestions for new fence?

This is my old thing, bought in 1989 with my first house: BD538SE Black Handled Corded 240V 350w It's given amazing service over the years, but struggles a bit with bigger jobs!

    Suggestions for new fence?

No, the house was built in 1994, but I didn't move in till 2017. However, other houses in the street have the same double-sided setup. Hhmmm hadn't thought whether Planning might have anything to say about a fence  Yes the more I think about it, I reckon straight is the way to go, and...

Garden from the road. The picture is taken from the footpath outside.

    Suggestions for new fence?

My fence is possibly getting on for 30 years old now, and is beginning to crumble, so I’m going to have to replace it. The wall has 5 fence sections like this in it, so there’s quite a lot to do… At the moment, they’re kind of double-sided affairs – hopefully you can see it in the photo, but...

    New D/G window leaking

It's been monsoon season here for the last couple of days :( but modern d/g should cope!

    New D/G window leaking

Yes, it does rock - the photo doesn't show it particularly well, but it comes away from the mullion at the top, while contacting the bottom below the bulge. Again, the photo isn't brilliant, but the water is lying on the windowsill below the mullion. There are some drops of water on the bottom...

    New D/G window leaking

Sadly, they only cover England and Wales - I'm in NI :( UPVC, yes. I'll attach a photo of the window, but the only opening bits are little ones at the top, and the mullions are I think evenly bowed from top to bottom. Curved mullions in red.

    New D/G window leaking

I had some new windows fitted by a local company about a year ago. One of the frames has been badly fitted, in my opinion, as the two big mullions going from top to bottom are noticeably bowed inwards towards the room. I tried to chase them at the time, but was ignored. Unfortunately, my mental...

Emergency help please - got a leak

Thing is, it was OK like that for 30 years till I disturbed it, so maybe it just needs a new rubber seal - I'll have a rummage in Pandora's Box later and see if I have one. Don't know what a "swan neck" is, sorry :notworthy: No, I wouldn't use silicone on this bit

Emergency help please - got a leak

Good suggestion thanks, but bearing in mind my level of incompetence, I'm going to stick everything together with silicone - seal it up like a submarine, and hopefully leave it for decades

Emergency help please - got a leak

Well, you're right about me being allergic to plumbing - I've always known that. But I'm pretty good at all the other things, so when something seems so simple... anyway, the water was definitely coming through the joint under the waste, I could see it clearly. What I then discovered was that...

Emergency help please - got a leak

Yup. Well I got about a month out of it, leak-free bliss. So of course I stopped the daily check (bit of bogroll round below the big nut, see if there are any water marks on it), and tonight I saw water seeping out onto the bathroom floor... everything soaked in the cupboard. So all ripped...

Replacement lighting units for bathroom cabinet?

Thanks guys, will measure the hole more precisely and look into those options :giggle:

Replacement lighting units for bathroom cabinet?

The two little lights above the mirror in my bathroom cabinet are falling to pieces. I replaced the bulbs with 12V LEDs a few years ago, but had to solder them to the transformer wires, as the connectors had failed. Unfortunately, they're flickering now, and the units are beyond repair now I...

Emergency help please - got a leak

OK Rab, will do. It's only a sight seep so hopefully that'll work :giggle: I'm generally a pretty handy guy, but if there's one thing I've learned in all my years, it is that if I look sideways at ANYTHING concerning plumbing, there will be a flood. It's my Achilles' Heel. By the way, I went...

Emergency help please - got a leak

...and indeed I have slight seepage where indicated. I know it's not straight - never has been, since before my time (possibly since 1994, when the house was built), but the bottom grey pipe is fixed in place, as far as I can tell. I don't like to try and force anything, as I have a tendency to...

Emergency help please - got a leak

OK, going for it now. How long do you have to let it dry before testing for leaks please? Ah OK, read the instructions Roger - seems I don't have to. Well, it doesn't seem to be leaking  Of course, everything else (downstream) may be...

Emergency help please - got a leak

Ah, sadly my McAlpine unit, from the cheap'n'nasty collection, doesn't have that facility. Unless you tell me different, but it just looks like a one-piece plastic moulding...

Emergency help please - got a leak

Ah OK, those are pretty much what I have. It's not that I'm trying to over-tighten it, but everything's so tight under the sink that I can only turn it a few mm each time, then try to approach form a different angle etc, and then the jaws slip off, chewing the nut. Full disclosure - before...
