Don't want to alarm you, but how old is your textured ceiling? When I bought my house last year the surveyor pointed out that textured ceilings could contain asbestos and should be treated with care i.e no cutting, sanding drilling etc.

You need to be sure that the cable from the socket to the consumer unit is the correct rating. The house I moved into had electric oven and gas hob. The circuit had 6mm cable which is ok for the oven, but when I replace with a combined electric oven and hob, it will need 10mm cable.

Could be your expansion vessel needs pressurising. If there is insufficient pressure in it, there is nowhere for the hot water to expand. Pressure builds up and releases out of the overflow. Then the water cools down and your system pressure falls. You top it up again and the cycle repeats itself.

Why? 95mm (or 4 inches if you prefer) is a fairly standard diameter isn't it?

The diameter of the wc spigot is fine at about 95mm. Its the protruding length at 25mm which I think is too short. I have considered using a silicone seal, but it shouldn't really be necessary.
