It was definately done on the top right of the fire next to I presume the flue space. The gas board stated that they were only doing me an obligement to confirm their first findings. I really appreciate the advice posts but I am not qualified or experinced enough to go against the gas board...

Correct ollski. 2 tests Central heating boiler on - flue test passed. Fire on - flue test failed. It was smoke matches that were used . They were very poor and he had to lite them with ordinary match. Cheers.

Got the Gas Board engineer out today for another test. Central Heating boiler o.k. Fire ran for 15 minutes, all doors closed then tested by placing smoke match in a hole at top right hand of fire. Some spillage came back into the room and was condemned. Thanks for all your help. Cheers.
