Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

No. It’s all quite simple. There used to be an upside down U bend which I suspected as contributing to the problem but I had that removed, and it has made no difference.

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

If I bleed with it off I don’t get much out. And then the radiators don’t get hot. Trial and error has shown that I need to do it while it is running. A downstairs radiator makes loads of gurgling and trickling noises. I have to leave this one on, all others off, and then bleed from an...

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

Nothing leaking. No signs of leak on ceilings or on floors. Been under the floorboards multiple times and no signs of water dripping or leaks there either. Pressure never rises on its own and it doesn’t drop, until I bleed them. Water that comes out is like an orange colour. The longer I leave...

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

I'm having continuous issues with my central heating. I've tried all sorts and there is no improvement so I'm reaching out online to see if anyone has an ideas or if anyone has experienced something similar. To put it simply, there is always air in the system that I can never fully clear...

Installing Fence Panels Over a Step

Hi all For various reasons not worth going over in too much detail I need to install new fence panels along the edge of my garden. There is a step/sharp change in elevation along the way - think two normal bricks tall. My instinct was to install a fence panel that ends at the step, post at the...

Blocking up internal window between rooms - brick or batten?

This this is basically it. If anyone is doing things in the kitchen right now you can’t really hear the tv in the living room!

Blocking up internal window between rooms - brick or batten?

Thanks to all responses. In terms of type of block, do I need to pay this any particular consideration - ie if it’s too heavy, is my wall going to sink or similar!? The wall is original to the house. Other houses in the same development/road have a solid wall here, or a small (0.5msq) serving...

Blocking up internal window between rooms - brick or batten?

Thanks for the advice, I’ll go from there. Soundproofing really is the biggest thing I want to achieve so it’s sounding like brickwork is the way. I was thinking having someone brick it up and then a separate plasterer to finish.

Blocking up internal window between rooms - brick or batten?

Haha yes I realise this, it means you’re all very very helpful! I have a punt at most DIY things but as this is very visible I want it done professionally. I’ve tried before on a small scale and I was mega bad! Also not sure if I could mess something up- cause structural issues. It’s defo sat...

Blocking up internal window between rooms - brick or batten?

Thanks all. Still getting a lot of conflicting opinions, ir seems everyone has a different approach depending on what they deem acceptable! Im going to get some quotes for brickwork and then go from there I think, with the mindset that this would be best for soundproofing- or at the very least...

Blocking up internal window between rooms - brick or batten?

Thanks a lot. Thats reassuring then, sounds like a better choice compared to batten etc to ensure soundproof, especially if don’t have to churn about the existing wall. Is this the sort of thing any bricklayer would be fine doing? Or should i be investigating using someone different? Thinking...

Blocking up internal window between rooms - brick or batten?

Hi all I have a 1.5 x 1m approx ‘window’ in the wall beyween my living room and kitchen. I would like this blocked up and plastered so both sides are just a finished wall. Priority to me is soundproofing between the two rooms. I’m not sure whether the best approach is bricking it up or...

Soffit vents and extractor fans - humidity transfer to loft?

Thanks, but any risk from bathroom window? Or not really a consideration? Thanks

Reassure me - foundations of old lean to extension

Hi. My house is mid 60s. It’s had a lean to extension installed at some point in the past. It’s single storey, flat roof, roughly 3x3m. My neighbours tell me it has been around since at least the mid 80s, so it has been standing for a long time. It’s all square and true outside, but weirdly...

Soffit vents and extractor fans - humidity transfer to loft?

Hi all Looking to add some soffit vents to my soffits to try and alleviate some condensation in my loft. At the rear of the house this fine, but st the front they will be above a bathroom window (first floor), boiler vent (ground floor) and in the future, vent for kitchen extractor fan...

Is this normal - drip marks on breather membrane in new roof

I had loads of photos but I must have deleted them! I only have a snip of a section from another photo. The roof looks like this all over - it’s all very uniform and straight and square. Imagine this.. covering an entire roof. I know it’s not an ideal image.. I’ll get some better photos tomorrow.

Is this normal - drip marks on breather membrane in new roof

Argh. I somehow don’t have any photos to hand. I’ll have a look through. Could there be condensation on the underside of the tiles that then drips - is that something that could/does happen? Tiles are concrete square ones, flat, interlocking. Theres about 7cm of headlap on where they lay over...

Is this normal - drip marks on breather membrane in new roof

Example photo here. Little spots like drops have hit the membrane from above? Have this in a few places. Some are longer, like a drop has run along the membrane. Unsure if it’s condensation. I am going to look to add some more ventilation to the loft. They seem to be more numerous after rain...

Is this normal - drip marks on breather membrane in new roof

Hi all End terrace house had new roof (tiles, battens, membrane) within the last two years). It’s been rainy gently the last couple of days - no high winds or driving rain - and I see little tiny marks on the breather membrane like wet spots or trickles. These marks were not here a week ago...
