    Workshop Mk2

Adding some cast-in-place padstones for the RSJ. No building work on top of it, it's for an engine hoist. Steel arrives Friday

    Workshop Mk2

I have finished laying the walls! Oh god. That was so much effort. There is now a very definite alley between home and build. And even the start of some timber I'm close to having it rain proof. Let's goooo!

The 2x10s will be feathered to give my roof slope. They exist 2.4m and up to give me more storage. Warm deck is preferred as I have no soffit vent space. 600mm centers is so I can fit my 600x600 panel lights. Storing ropes, cables, material lengths... Etc Would also add that I'm making the...

    Flat roof sound deadening

Building a workshop with block walls and a flat roof. Roof is 3m span with feathered 2x10s on 600mm centers. 18mm OSB, 50-100mm PUR, 18mm OSB. Joists are exposed for storage. I am aware of how loud rain could be, but also tool noise escaping. I was wondering if there is an additional acoustic...

Ehhhh, that one's not done yet. But it's the easier one to outside. Half the length and the target it bigger

    Workshop Mk2

Door lintel(s) are in. They are not light and I'm glad I don't have H&S visits. The incremental Jenga tower of blocks was safer than it looks. Honest! Now I can carry on with the walls. In this heat. Yay.

No can do. Not a chance I can keep the hall accessible. I would have to remove the radiator, skirting, floor, underlay and DPM.

    Surgical wiring SWA through screed

I'll admit, failure. But not immediately. I'm kinda stubborn with problems like this and I think I can make it work... So going to keep trying. 1) female end was using grub screws, but they worked loose. Some thread lock should fix that. 2) male end was a cut down 10mm drill bit. Welded in...

Ok, I'll admit, its glacial... But I've maxed out my 1m £20 bit... The 1.2m bit is £100+ So engineering time: I think this'll work

    Surgical wiring SWA through screed

Hey, I said it was slow going. I've got to work around a kiddos bedtime and work, so I get at most an hour window every day to set up, drill and tidy. Plus fighting the drill overheating. Hope to be done some time in June 2025/2026 ;)

Having done a fair amount of horizontal and vertical drilling, I'll admit that going sideways with a big bit is so much easier than going down with a smaller one. Vertically, your dust pile keeps falling down the hole, at least this is piling up outside.

So, in greatest 'horny bunny' fashion, I'm sliding it in and out as I go to clear dust. So far, no noticeable increase in general stiffness unless I hit a chonky bit of aggregate. The drill keeps spinning without issue too ;) The drill clutch has been wrecked over the last 20 years by using...

    Surgical wiring SWA through screed

Every other route digs into indoor space considerably. Especially when going round corners. I agree silver line is ****e, but I'm in over halfway and apart from the occasional stubborn but of aggregate, progress is slow, but.... Well, progressive. I'll still need to get a 1200 / 1500 long bit...
