    Chimney stack removal

It’s surprised me how many have been removed. I hadn’t noticed until I started taking notice. I think mine will look odd but thats better than spending lots of money on its upkeep

    Chimney stack removal

I hadn’t thought of it as the mortar crumbling. I assumed it had cracked and moved and what’s why it’s leaning. You are probably right though as the top had a huge crack in it before we had it replaced last year so I wonder if water had run down it when it rained and caused the damage. That’s...

    Chimney stack removal

It’s blocked up downstairs and I definitely wouldn’t have a log burner installed ever. Plus I’m worried about it leaning

    Chimney stack removal

The top few layers need relaying and then rest repointing plus it’s leaning a little so if it was taken down all of the issues will be gone in one hit instead of it needing something else next year and so on

    Chimney stack removal

I wouldn’t want anything inside the house removing, I like the quirky shapes

    Chimney stack removal

I think taking it just below the roofline and tiling over it is what’s being suggested. Im Just trying to understand what’s involved so there’s no nasty surprises

    Chimney stack removal

Looks very nice, I love the colour! I’ve no interest in a fire. I spent years as a child worried ours would set the house a light and thankfully have a lovely new boiler. Was yours corbelled into the wall also? I’m worried about the bricks at the top of the roof the ridge beam sits on. Will...

    Chimney stack removal

Hi thanks for replying. He didn’t seem bothered in the slightest. He didn’t really look at the chimney from the front and I didn’t show him the photos of the cracks as I as too busy over reacting and pointing out every other little fault in my house. I’m waiting for a call back from him so I can...

    Chimney stack removal

We’ve had a couple of builders and a structural engineer look at our chimney that is leaning slightly. One side has a few cracks and it’s been suggested that instead of relaying the top few bricks and repointing it’s better to remove the whole thing to below the roof. I’m wondering if I would...

    Roof spread

Hi sorry to ask another stupid question. I have a structural engineer visiting in the week, I’ve asked him to check in the loft but told him it’s not boarded. He said it was fine, he would just walk along the joists. Theres quite a thick insulation covering the loft, will this need removing or...

    Chalky artex ceilings

Thanks for your reply, I painted one a few weeks back and noticed it was quite soft until it dried but not chalky, maybe the coat that was already there had been applied better

    Roof spread

It’s a 1950-1960s semidetached. The cracks are like this on the same wall in each bedroom

    Roof spread

Thanks for your reply. The diagonal cracks seem to go up or down from the bottom of the windows and are really long. The horizontal ones are either midwall or under the window. The plaster sounds very hollow when I tap it on the wall in all of the bedrooms and all 3 have radiators under the...

    Roof spread

Thank you for your reply. I have spoken to a structural engineer today who is coming to visit next week. Hopefully then I will know what’s going on, there’s no point in keeping guessing I should have called them before. He did say 9 times out of 10 it’s nothing major so hopefully it can be...

    Roof spread

Hi sorry to be asking advice again so soon. Would roof spread cause hairline horizontal and diagonal cracks inside the house? I can’t see any outside but there are definitely new ones inside on the same wall in every upstairs room. This is also the same wall that has a 3 brick step crack at the...

    Chimney/ wall crack

Another builder came yesterday, said the same as the first, the chimney is fine probably just age and the cracks in the house are nothing to worry about just get them re pointed, the gutter bracket is just above it and the gutter is leaking so that could have ran down the wall and over time...

    Chimney/ wall crack

Thank you for your reply. By CWI do you mean cavity wall insulation? I seem to remember something being said about that being done when I was younger, possibly when new loft insulation went in but can’t be sure. Ceiling there looks ok from what I can tell, The wall is wallpapered but I can take...
