Reducing effective size of plug / socket behind dishwasher

i like the sound of this suggestion, I assume your use of flex and the pattress box containing a cable clamp means that this is effectively creating an extension lead which doesn’t need to be fixed to anything and can be laid out with the cable and the box sitting loose?

Reducing effective size of plug / socket behind dishwasher

Is that an allowable DIY job or would it need to be certified?

Reducing effective size of plug / socket behind dishwasher

Thanks, the controlling switch is in a wall unit some meters away. It's a four gang switch controlling the various appliances in that area of the kitchen. I've attached a photo...

Reducing effective size of plug / socket behind dishwasher

I've recently replaced an old free-standing dishwasher with a new semi-integrated model and I have a slight problem because the combination of the socket and plug (which are positioned behind the dishwasher) are causing the dishwasher to stand proud of the adjacent cupboard by about 1cm. Of...

Which tools for changing kitchen tap cartridge and tightning tap?

This was the answer, although the two monoblock spanners I have will only interlink in one combination; luckily that was the correct combination for my situation!

Which tools for changing kitchen tap cartridge and tightning tap?

Thanks for the info on deep drive sockets, sometimes it's just knowing the name of the tool that's the barrier! I'll have a play with extending the box spanners, I'd still rather have one long box spanner and am surprised that they don't seem to exist...

Which tools for changing kitchen tap cartridge and tightning tap?

I need to replace the cartridges on a kitchen tap (pictures attached) and then tighten it to the sink. The first problem I have is with removing the cartridges; the 15mm nut that I need to undo is below the level of the surrounding tap so I can't use a flat spanner. The splined shaft is too...

Solution to light switches being obstructed by furniture

I've got a couple of light switches which are obstructed by furniture and wondered if there are any elegant solutions available to allow the light to be operated from a slightly different position without additional wiring? At the moment, we have to reach behind the furniture but we would prefer...

Why do new-build houses have bathroom / toilet light switches outside of room?

I've observed that modern houses typically have the bathroom or toilet light switches outside of the room. As I understand it, electrical fittings are permitted inside of bathroom / toilets as long as they are outside zones 0-2. Can someone explain why the switches aren't positioned inside the...

What size is a roll of loft insulation?

I need to transport some rolls of loft insulation in a car and am trying to work out how large they are when packaged. I can't find this info anywhere and I wondered if someone on here could give me a rough idea... The insulation in question is Knauf 200mm Super Top Up Loft Roll Insulation...

Taking mixer tap apart to replace cartridge

Thanks, I eventually managed to get it off but in doing so (using a screwdriver for leverage), made a right mess of the flimsy dome shaped cover that screws on the thread of the nut that keeps the cartridge cover (see photos). I couldn't work out why the handle was so hard to remove, it wasn't...

Taking mixer tap apart to replace cartridge

The following two images show a mixer tap that I'm trying to take apart so that I may replace the stiff ceramic cartridge. I've popped off the red / blue plastic cover and that has revealed a 2mm hex grub screw inside but unscrewing that seems to have had no effect. The threaded bar doesn't seem...

    Prepared board for coat hooks

It's possible to buy a prepared board with coat hooks pre-mounted e.g. https://www.therange.co.uk/_m3/1/3/1459890923_941.jpg Does anyone know if it's possible to buy these kinds of prepared boards but without the hooks? I'd like to choose my own hooks at a different spacing but have no idea how...

How to take this tap apart?

OK, I was nervous but that did it! Now I'm left with an inverted hex type arrangement (see attached). What does one call the tool I need for this?

How to take this tap apart?

OK, I got the shaft off and it hasn't helped. I also tried putting a hex key in the hole left by the shaft in case there was a grub screw at the bottom...

How to take this tap apart?

The shaft won't move (if you look closely you can see where I've buggered up the thread trying) and there's no grub screw that I can see nor any covers where a grub screw may be hidden underneath. If it was the shaft, wouldn't there be a flat on it or some other way to get purchase on it? I'm...
