Ok to spray paint on cables?

Again thanks, but I’ve decided to proceed with the job. It’s an itch I’ve wanted to scratch ever since we moved here 4 years ago and I’ve just ( carefully, with all the necessary protection) wire brushed the surface rust from 6 of the roof supports and painted them with rust converter. Another 6...

Ok to spray paint on cables?

I won’t be using spray, but instead applying a multi surface paint with a brush. But thanks anyhow for the heads-up.

Ok to spray paint on cables?

Yes, I get that. The job will be onerous because of the need to either move or put dust sheets over a fair amount of stuff, and it could be wasted time and effort if we do get the roof replaced in the next couple of years. Food for thought which I’ll take on board.

Ok to spray paint on cables?

Thanks once more, but I remain convinced that demounting of the cables before treating and painting the metal roof supports is the best way forward in the circumstances.

Ok to spray paint on cables?

Thanks, but if I’m going to the trouble of putting down dust sheets then wire brushing and applying rust inhibitor/ converter to the metal roof supports, then the least I can do is finish off with paint substantial enough to protect the metal from the kind of atmospheric conditions you tend to...

Ok to spray paint on cables?

Rust erodes and weakens the original material. These are roof supports which are carrying a fair bit of weight, and I wouldn't want them to deteriorate further. My original intention was to replace the roof with a modern metal covering, but because of cost I've had to kick that plan down the...

Ok to spray paint on cables?

Again, thanks. It’s becoming horrifyingly clear that the cables will have to come off before painting. A rust converter will do if Hammerite isn’t suitable.

Ok to spray paint on cables?

Tricky because they’re cable-tied along the mid line of the metal brackets that I want to paint. Only solution appears to be removal, sadly.

Ok to spray paint on cables?

I’ve just read somewhere else that oil based paints can damage PVC cable sheathing, so I’ll remove the cables from the roof supports before I paint. Unless, that is I can buy water-based “direct to rust” spray paint.

Ok to spray paint on cables?

Afternoon all The power cables in my garage are tied to the metal supports for the asbestos roof panels. Roof replacement is in the offing, but not imminent because the panels are in good shape. Those metal roof supports are rusting and I feel inclined to spray them with a "directly onto rust"...

outside pir lights that last longer than 10 months

I'm not an electrician but a DIYer, and it makes little sense for me personally to spend a lot of money on floodlights, given that they're illuminated only occasionally Even though they might not be the best quality, they're likely to last longer because of that low usage. But I don't think...

outside pir lights that last longer than 10 months

I suppose “cheap and cheerful” does tend to come with some risk, but clearly others have had problems with more expensive options.

outside pir lights that last longer than 10 months

I bought LAP PIR floodlights ( bulbs non replaceable) from Screwfix for our previous bungalow and again when we moved here. The previous one was still working after about 7 years, the current one has been in place and working for almost 4 years. Never had any issues with them, and they're really...

    Questions about fencing

Thanks once again. In all honesty it’s a fairly gentle slope, so the “step down” will be minimal. However, the other side of the garden also need new fencing and it’s longer—about 15m—so this shorter run should provide a useful template.

    Questions about fencing

Yes, the 4.5 m thing was a sloppy mistake and thanks for the pic. My slope is far less severe than the above but obviously the principle will be the same.

    Questions about fencing

Morning folks Planning to embark on a small fencing project ( about 9 metres in length, 4.5m in height ) using closeboard panels with concrete posts and gravel boards. Never done it before, so I'm researching like mad. Couple of questions on the above: firstly, the garden has a slight...

    connecting floodlight to a socket

Back in the mid 80s we bought a special noise-operated bulb for the dining room of our first house. You screwed it into the bayonet fitting like a normal bulb, but turned on the light by clapping your hands then turned it off the same way. Trouble was that the dog decided we were playing a game...
