    Checking continuity of bonding.

I’ve had a good poke around behind the kitchen cupboards with the endoscope, and I cant see any bonding on the kitchen water pipework, which is all copper, no plastic. The CU has RCD and MCB protection.

    Checking continuity of bonding.

There is a metal water supply pipe in the kitchen, yes, but if there is bonding on it, its not easily visible. I'll break out my endoscope and have a nose around behind the cupboard. Yes, the mains feed comes up through the floor in the bathroom, and its copper. Pretty sure there's no plastic...

    Checking continuity of bonding.

Hi all Another question about bonding. Having finished my bathroom refurb and reinstated the bonding straps on the copper water pipes, it occurred to me to examine the bonding cable outside. The cable departs the external meter cupboard, is pinned to the wall for about 3 feet, disappears...

    Domestic pipe bonding question ..

If a modern CU with RCD protection is in place, is bonding still required?

Ok, thanks. I think I'm getting the picture now.

    Domestic pipe bonding question ..

Thanks. Given that the earth cable that disappears into the wall is attached to Pipe B, then I do need to re-establish the connection between A and B.

    Domestic pipe bonding question ..

Good question. I had the floorboards up recently and I didn't see any evidence of blue pipe at the base of the incoming main. However yes, it could well have been replaced outside before we moved here.

No blue plastic pipe in the house.

    Domestic pipe bonding question ..

Thanks for the replies. I'm obviously not making myself clear, and unfortunately the only picture I have doesn't show the full story. I'll try to describe the set up but if that proves to be no good I'll post the photo anyhow. The incoming copper main ( pipe A) rises from the stopcock to a...

    Domestic pipe bonding question ..

Afternoon all How should copper pipe bonding be done? I have a bonding cable on the mains cold water pipe just above the stopcock, but there was also a cable strapped between that cold pipe and the pipe next to it, which is now disconnected. I can't reattach that second bond because I've fitted...

What's your wall chaser of choice?

They’re hidden by shower panels now, but pretty sure these were black. I know they create black dust when you drill into them.

What's your wall chaser of choice?

Another vote for an SDS drill with a chisel attachment. I recently chased out a block internal wall for shower pipework ( wish I’d battened and boarded instead, but that’s another story). I started with the bright idea of cutting the edges of the chase with a mini grinder then hacking out by...

Refixing loose section of ceiling coving.

Many thanks for that. Since I wrote my first post, my daughter has asked the decorator who will be doing her hall, stairs and landing if he can fix it, and he’s said yes. I don’t know the chap, but I’ll be impressed if he does the job as thoroughly as you’ve suggested it should be done.

Refixing loose section of ceiling coving.

Afternoon all. This might possibly come under "decorating", but I'll try here first. Attached is a photo of the plaster coving on my daughter's landing ceiling. To the left of the crack about 600mm of coving is loose, on the right of the crack its still solidly fixed to the wall, and I'm just...

Looking for a way to confirm leak...or not.

Pretty sure there’s no condensation at present but I’ll check, thanks.

Looking for a way to confirm leak...or not.

Yes, or I could leave a scrunched up sheet of kitchen roll down there for a day or two. Pretty obvious really, I guess.

Looking for a way to confirm leak...or not.

Evening all Just wondering whether members of the forum have in their plumbing portfolios any tricks to confirm whether there are leaks in confined spaces, when other methods of investigation don't provide certainty. I recently fitted a vanity unit with sink in our bathroom. I used...

    Shower install on combi boiler

I've just replaced an electric shower with a thermostatic bar mixer working off a combi boiler. Our water pressure is pretty good, but the electric shower was no better than adequate in summer and pi** poor in winter. The pressure/flow from this thermostatic shower is absolutely tremendous: you...
