    Which pan connector?

@Madrab, I’ve just had a look under the floor with my endoscope and although it’s hard to work out scale on the tiny screen, I reckon there’s about 12 inches of soil pipe between the top of the concrete mound and the underside of the floorboard. Do you think that would be enough to move the soil...

    Which pan connector?

A flexible connector was my first thought, but I would still need to relocate the connection with the soil pipe in order to gain enough advantage

    Which pan connector?

Good point, but again I'll probably only know for sure after I lift the floorboards. Will update as soon as I can, even sooner if I can get a look at the situation in the meantime with my endoscope.

Sewage smell from kitchen sink (Ed.)

Only speaking from my own experience, but are the walls of your gulley sound? I had an issue a couple of years back with a smell outside the kitchen door: flummoxed me at first till after some investigation I noticed that a gap had opened up inside the gulley, above the water level, and waste...

    Which pan connector?

I can't be 100 per cent sure what's going on down there till I take up the boards. As I mentioned the other day, I had a look underneath an adjacent floorboard and there's a ruddy great mountain of concrete under the floor with the soil pipe sticking out of it. I'm sure I could break into that...

    Which pan connector?

Pics below ( with some repetition, unfortunately) and thanks in advance. Its a dreadfully messy area, but I'll be throwing the WC out early next week so cleaning seems pointless. The distance from the last visible part of the WC spigot to the back wall is roughly 35cm. The white plastic pipe on...

    Which pan connector?

Thanks again, I'll buy a swan neck. I think it would also be wise to buy some spare 110mm soil pipe and connectors, because whilst cleaning up the site I have to remove the last of the ceramic floor tiles that the old WC currently sits on. Previous experience of just how firmly these are...

    Which pan connector?

I plan to remove the old WC and raise the floorboards on Monday, so I’ll post a photo when all is revealed. It literally looks like someone has tipped a wheelbarrow full of concrete under the floor to make a protective hillock around a soil pipe. There’s also a giant (but dead) wasps’ nest under...

    Which pan connector?

Thanks for the heads up. The purchase has already been made and the bits are in the garage ready to fit. I've replaced a couple of siphon units in close coupled toilets, the type where the cistern has to come off the wall. If BTW maintenance is any worse than that, then there's definitely fun...

    Which pan connector?

Thanks for that. I guess that there are a few options and I'm only really asking because a) even questions with obvious answers tend to be treated with respect on these forums, and b) although I've removed and refitted a WC before, I've never replaced one. So I was unsure whether there's...

    Which pan connector?

Evening all On the final stage of my bathroom renovation. Shower is in, sink is in, most of the shower panels are in place. Now its the turn of the WC. I've bought one of those "back to the wall" WCs, intending to fit it without relocating any pipework. The photo below shows the current...

    Olives for Imperial

Must admit that the thickness of the tubing and the sheer weight of the metal compared to the modern 15mm pipes did surprise me. So as you suggest, maybe they’re not standard Imperial size. I think I’ve sorted the problem now but I’ll be buying in copper and Imperial olives, because I’ll also be...

    Olives for Imperial

Yes, I noticed that right away when I removed some of the Imperial pipes: far more metal in there than the modern stuff. In my case probably not enough to make it worth weighing in, but I might employ my new pipe bending and soldering skills and make a copper-themed work of art :0)

    Olives for Imperial

I’m a bit reluctant to do any “tapping”, to be honest. I had considerable trouble getting some of the pipe connections leak free, and as one of those recalcitrant joints is just inches from this particular source of concern I’d prefer to avoid any unnecessary vibration. To update, I did manage...

    Olives for Imperial

Thanks once more. Since I overcame my fixation with PTFE tape, olives have become the one feature of DIY plumbing that I thought I could rely on. Having that confidence dented...well, a bitter blow.

    Olives for Imperial

To my shame yes, I was using brass because I'd run out of copper ones. I'll buy some Imperials and a bunch of copper olives too, for future convenience. And thanks.

    Olives for Imperial

Thanks for that. I don't have a tube expander but I'll have a look on Ebay shortly.

    Olives for Imperial

I've just discovered that modern 15mm olives don't fit the Imperial equivalent copper pipework from the 1960s, and it was a shock ( though perhaps it shouldn't have been). Whilst tidying up my plumbing after fitting a thermostatic shower, I set to work blanking off a dead leg that ambled in the...

Thickness of base for a shower tray.

One final, final question, and it relates to the YouTube video from Skill Builder that @Wayners posted above. The chap in the video recommends not using tile adhesive as the bedding for a shower tray, because with the tray being permanently fixed in position, stuck to the base with no...
