    Tailgate struts

Over the weekend I'll look back at my invoices & check the brand I bought & been quite satisfied with. Update : sorry can't find the invoice, all I know is that they were a well-known brand.

    Tailgate struts

I got mine off the 'Bay by entering my car's make/model. Just look for a recognised brand, you get what you pay for.

    Removing personalised number plate

Common practice with operators of luxury coaches, as in common with coach-built hearses these are expensive vehicles & are expected to have a long service life, so the operators didn't want the actual age being obvious to their clients.

    Tailgate struts

Risky approach in IMO Not until you fit the used struts to the car will you know if they will support the weight of the tailgate, or even if they do how long for?

    Car revs question

Always give my 28 year old BM a thrash before it's MOT (emissions test)

    Tailgate struts

The 'cups' on the first ones I bought off the 'Bay wouldn't even clip over the body mountings, so they were returned for full refund.

    Tailgate struts

Nothing wrong with aftermarket items, but you get what you pay for .. guess how I know (& my boot-lid is lighter than a hatch)

    Tyre Rotation, any point?

I wonder if these anomalies are due to the cars being designed as LHD & then converted to RHD? Back in 1986 my ex. bought a new Lada Riva that had an uncomfortable accelerator position due to it being close to the wheel arch, whereas in LHD configuration the pedal would have been on the right...

WTF, can't be good for your hips/lower back

    Tyre Rotation, any point?

That's some disparity in wear, never encountered anything like it in my 62 years of car ownership. Suspension problems, vehicle design or driving style?

    Tyre Rotation, any point?

I don't bother, my old 5 series (RWD) wears it's tyres very evenly. After 24K miles the Michelins still have at least 5mm tread depth. Interestingly the current industry advice seems to be that the best rubber should be fitted to the rear, regardless of whether the car is FWD/RWD nb. my old RR...

Just bought an old car any advice welcome.

Depends on the manuf. Some brands are ok with E10 even though built much earlier, BMW for example.

Just bought an old car any advice welcome.

+ 1 Take the spare wheel out & make sure the well isn't half full of rainwater. Never owned a Focus but my neighbour had the problem with his.

Buying a 2nd hand car instead of an EV

Same here Harry, out of approx 170 homes where I live there are just 2 EV's & one of those is a company car that rarely charges at home.

Buying a 2nd hand car instead of an EV

I like the 'zero tail pipe emissions' bit, makes EV's sound totally green .. until someone asks the question 'where does the electricity to charge them come from?' nb. the only 'filthiest' 2001-2017 cars that paid up to £35 (the next band was £165) were those emitting no more than 120 gms.

Buying a 2nd hand car instead of an EV

Sadly the highest April VED rate increases seem to focus on the very range of ICE cars (2001 to 2017) that so many people rely on for their daily transport. Some of these in the higher emission bands will see their VED almost double whilst not being able to afford newer cars with lower...

Buying a 2nd hand car instead of an EV

That's the point I was making, the increase in 'electronic crap' is now responsible for the car's motive power. Not so much the motor(s) or batteries themselves but the control systems. I know two EV owners personally who have their cars, both less than 3 years old & under warranty, stuck at...

    Clock Ideas for Car ?

Lots of examples on the 'Bay, most of them rubbish. Biggest problem I've had is finding the best position to locate the thing .. I can't stand any accessory that clips into the air vents.
